Stephen Bates, Christina Bellantoni And Jonathan Rauch To Participate In Journalism Panel At 2021 Las Vegas Book Festival
Additional Panel Topics Include “New Ways To Write About Vegas” And “Following Voices Of Identity And Wonder”
LAS VEGAS – Sept. 16, 2021 – University of Nevada Las Vegas journalism professor Stephen Bates, University of Southern California Annenberg Media Center Director Christina Bellatoni and The Atlantic contributing writer Jonathan Rauch will discuss how technology is transforming the way journalists do their jobs. Moderated by the Las Vegas-Review Journal’s Steve Sebelius, “Covering the News: Past, Present and Future” is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 23, at 2:30 p.m. during the 2021 Las Vegas Book Festival.
Additional panel discussions include:
- “New Ways to Write About Vegas” – Moderated by Scott Dickensheets, this panel features talented emerging writers who will explore new lenses through which to view the city so commonly referred to as the “city of second chances” or “city of bright lights.” Nicholas Russell, Summer Thomad, Soni Brown and Jennifer Battisti will participate in the discussion.
- “Library Oasis: Following Voices of Identity and Wonder” – Black Mountain Institute fellows and award-winning authors Faylita Hicks and Mary South converse about loss, reclamation and expressions of grief and rage. Moderated by poet Sreshtha Sen.
- “Happily Ever After Guaranteed” – Moderated by Crystal Perkins, romance authors Jennifer DeLuca, Rachel Van Dyken, Vanessa Riley and Naima Simone will discuss how they weave real-life struggles into their books while still giving their readers, and character, the love stories they desire.
The 2021 Las Vegas Book Festival’s Virtual Book Week will feature programming for all ages. Virtual pre-events will start Monday, Oct. 18, and continue all week leading up to the in-person event Saturday, Oct. 23. A full schedule of events will be shared closer to the event.
