Two Alarm Fire Damages Northwest Apartment Building – July 7
American Red Cross Assisting Several Displaced Occupants
A northwest Las Vegas apartment building was damaged by fire early Wednesday evening. Firefighters were able to bring the fast moving fire to a stop before it spread across the entire attic keeping damage to a minimum. There were no reported injuries during the incident. The American Red Cross is assisting those who are displaced by the fire.
Fire dispatchers received multiple 9-1-1 calls at 8:09 p.m. Wednesday, July 7 that an apartment building at the Accent on Rainbow, 6666 W. Washington Avenue was on fire. They said several people were fighting the fire using over 20 fire extinguishers.
When firefighters arrived flames were running up the outside wall of a two story wood frame apartment building with 16 apartment units. The fire was burning into the attic of the building producing a thick smoke. A second alarm was requested which brought approximately 21 units with 65 firefighters total to the fire.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in less than thirty minutes. When the fire was extinguished, it was determined that four apartments were damaged by the fire on the second floor and four units on the first floor had water damage. Damage was estimated at $150,000.
Fire investigators determined the fire started outside the building on the ground next to the wall. The fire ran up the wall into the attic and started to spread across the attic. Firefighters arrived at that time and was able to put a stop on the advancement. A pile of pine needles were against the wall from where the yard next the building was cleaned earlier. What started the fire could not be determined.
Utilities to the building had to be disconnected due to the fire, so the entire building has been evacuated, which could affect nearly 30 tenants the management at the complex estimated. The American Red Cross arrived on scene with its disaster relief team to assist the tenants.
There were no reported injuries.
