Two-Alarm Apartment Building Fire Is Under Investigation
American Red Cross Assisting Approximately Ten Residents
Las Vegas and Clark County firefighters fought a two-alarm fire that heavily damaged an apartment building at the Walker House apartments late Wednesday afternoon. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Fire dispatchers received a call at 3:16 p.m. Wednesday, May 12, from a maintenance worker that there was a fire in the attic of building G at 2700 S. Valley View Blvd. When firefighters arrived, they found fire in two apartments on the second floor and in the attic. A second alarm was requested to bring addition personnel and equipment to the fire.
It took firefighters approximately 45 minutes to put the fire out. The fire gutted the attic and caused heavy damage to four second floor apartments. The four downstairs apartments were also damaged mostly by water from above. Damage to the building is estimated at $500,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Fire investigators believe the fire started on the floor in the breezeway outside two apartment doors. The fire then spread to the two doors, burned up and through the doors getting inside each apartment. Near the front door is duct work in the ceiling from the air conditioner in the attic space, that is how the fire got into the attic.
The number of people displaced is approximately ten. Management for the apartment complex was working with the American Red Cross to make sure all displaced occupants had a place to stay.
No one was hurt during the operation.
