Fire In Walmart Supercenter On April 4 Ruled Arson
Fire Sprinklers Quickly Douse Fire
One person was injured when a fire broke out in the Walmart Supercenter at 4505 W. Charleston Blvd. shortly before 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 4. Automatic fire sprinklers quickly quenched the fire before it could get out of control, and fire investigators believe the fire was intentionally set.
Fire dispatchers were notified at 7:48 p.m. Sunday of the fire, and as fire crews were arriving, people were in the progress of evacuating the store. Light smoke could be seen inside.
The fire was in the rear of the store in the paper towel aisle. Fire sprinklers kept the fire in check dousing most of the flames, and firefighters finished it off.
The burning material did produce smoke that quickly filled the store. Damage was estimated at $200,000, mostly due to smoke damaging items in the store. Structural damage was estimated at less than $10,000. Firefighters and employees of Walmart worked quickly to make sure water from the sprinkler system did not damage the store further.
The fire remains under investigation, and suspect information is not available at this time.
