Fire In Downtown Thrift Store Result Of Arson – March 28
Suspect Taken To Clark County Detention Center
Las Vegas firefighters responded to the Charleston Outlet thrift store early Sunday evening for a reported fire. A passer-by notified fire dispatchers at 7:17 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 28 that it appeared there was a man in the closed store setting fires.
When firefighters arrived at the large one story building at 1548 E. Charleston Boulevard, smoke was coming out an outside door. Firefighters entered the building which was full of thick smoke. As crews moved around looking for the seat of the fire, they found there were multiple fires inside. Some of the fires were smoldering producing thick smoke making it difficult to find the fires. It took about an hour to make sure all of them were out.
A man fitting the description of the person seen inside the store setting the fires was walking away from the area and was taken by police back to the scene of the fire. Las Vegas Arson Investigators talked to the individual and then made the arrest. He was transported to the Clark County Detention Center to be charged with Arson First Degree for allegedly starting the fires.
The fire caused about $100,000 damage, mostly due to the smoke.
There were no injuries during the incident.
The Clark County Fire Department assisted at the incident.
