Las Vegas City Councilman Cedric Crear and Clark County Commissioner William McCurdy II are set to announce the names of 36 leaders and icons of the Historic Westside who will be recognized at the currently under construction Legacy Park. The community submitted nominees and a panel of community volunteers selected the honorees.

The announcement will be a part of the annual African-American Trailblazer Service Awards Program Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 9 a.m. Due to pandemic safety precautions, the event will not be open to the public, but the entire community is invited to watch live at https://livestream.com/cityoflasvegas/events/9482226.

Construction on the Historic Westside Legacy Park, a partnership between the city of Las Vegas and Clark County, has started at 1600 Mount Mariah Drive and is scheduled for completion this year. This park is a tribute to the many trailblazers who have led the Historic Westside community through the years.

The annual African-American Trailblazer Service Awards also will be announced at the event. The awards honor residents who have outstanding civic accomplishments and have made significant contributions to the Las Vegas community.
