Two-Alarm Fire Destroys House Under Construction April 2
Incident Under Investigation By Clark County Fire Investigators
Las Vegas firefighters responded to a fire at a house under construction in the far northwest part of the valley this morning. The house is located outside the city limits in unincorporated Clark County. There were no reported injuries during the incident.
Fire dispatchers received several 9-1-1 calls at 5:58 a.m. Thursday, April 2, that a house under construction in the 9600 block of La Madre Way was on fire. As crews were leaving various stations in the city to respond, they could see a large column of smoke coming from the fire.
When firefighters arrived, they found a very large house in the framing stage fully involved with fire. Westerly winds of 20-30 mph were fanning the flames and spreading embers to other nearby occupied homes. Those nearby homes were evacuated. Because of the possibility that other homes could become involved, a second alarm was dispatched to the fire. The fire eventually brought 25 fire units with 60 fire personnel to the scene.
The fire was brought under control in approximately 30 minutes after arriving on the scene.
The house where the fire started was destroyed. Two other properties on the street sustained minor damage from the fire.
Because the incident occurred in unincorporated Clark County, Clark County Fire Department investigators will determine a cause and damage estimates.
