Fire On Outside Of Tarkanian Basketball Academy
Large Crowd Evacuated From Building Without Injury
Firefighters responded to the Tarkanian Basketball Academy at 9:31 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, for a large fire reported to the rear of the large two-story building at 2730 S. Rancho Dr.
When firefighters arrived, the fire was found on the outside of the building under a steel staircase that went from the second floor to the ground level. Underneath the stairs was a storage area that was full of supplies. A concrete wall kept the fire from spreading to the interior of the building, but some smoke did manage to get inside.
Approximately 60-100 people inside the building for a basketball event were evacuated by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police while firefighters worked on putting the fire out. Once the people were evacuated, large fans were used by firefighters to fill the building with fresh air and to force the smoke outside.
There was no damage to the interior of the building. The was some damage to the exterior wall and the contents of the storage area was destroyed. What started the fire is under investigation.
There were no reported injuries during the incident.
