Patio Fire Damages Northwest Las Vegas Home

American Red Cross Assisting Three Displaced Adults

Las Vegas firefighters responded to the 8100 block of Cimarron Ridge Drive (Cimarron/Vegas) at 10:58 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, after fire dispatchers received calls of a possible yard on fire.

When firefighters arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the rear of a two-story, wood-frame/stucco house. When they went to the rear of the house, they found a covered patio fully involved with flames. Windows to the kitchen on the first floor and a bedroom above the patio on the second floor broke due to the heat of the fire and flames started to extend to the interior of the house.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the flames on the patio and were able to stop the advance of the fire in the kitchen and bedroom. Within a few minutes, they had the fire out.

No one was home at the time of the fire. A family of three adults live in the house; they are displaced due to the damage. The American Red Cross is assisting them.

Fire investigators believe the fire started on the patio. It appears to be accidental in nature; the cause is undetermined.

The fire gutted the patio area and did damage to part of the back outside wall of the house. There also is damage to the kitchen area and the bedroom. Damage was estimated at $60,000.

There were no injuries in connection with the incident.
