Newly Elected Las Vegas City Council Members To Be Sworn In July 3

Council Members For Wards 1, 2 & 3 To Be Officially Seated

Newly elected Las Vegas City Council members for Wards 1, 2 and 3 will be sworn in at the Wednesday, July 3, City Council meeting that begins at 9:30 a.m. in Council Chambers on the second floor of Las Vegas City Hall, located at 495 S. Main St.

The winners of the June 11 election include Councilman-elect Brian Knudsen in Ward 1, Councilwoman-elect Victoria Seaman in Ward 2 and Councilwoman-elect Olivia Diaz in Ward 3. Following the swearing-in ceremonies at the beginning of the meeting, the three new Council members will participate in the rest of the meeting agenda.

Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and Ward 5 Councilman Cedric Crear won reelection in the April 2 Primary Election and were previously sworn into office.

Among the items on the meeting agenda is the naming of a new mayor pro tem, and Mayor Goodman has nominated Ward 6 Councilwoman Michele Fiore for that position.

The City Council also is scheduled to vote on the ratification of Youth Development & Social Innovation Director Lisa Morris-Hibbler to the position of chief community services officer. If approved, Morris-Hibbler would replace the retiring Karen Duddlesten, who has been with the city since 2011.

In addition, the City Council also is scheduled to vote on the ratification of a new Parks & Recreation director. The nominee, Greg A. Weitzel, previously served as parks and recreation director for Idaho Falls, Idaho, and is a graduate of Pennsylvania State University.

Finally, the City Council will recognize a team of city employees for their volunteer work in helping students at Wendell P. Williams Elementary School.
