City Of Las Vegas
Mobile App Offers New Homeless Services Information
GOVegas App Provides
City Services At The Touch Of A Button
The
city of Las Vegas has launched a new homeless services section for the free GOVegas
city services app. Some of the information offered includes details about the
city’s Courtyard Homeless Resource Center, other homeless service providers,
meal times, calendars and more.
These
services are part of the GOVegas app, which is available for free download for
iOS from the Apple App Store and for
Android at Google Play. The new features are located under
the Community Services header on the app.
GOVegas
offers multiple city services, including the ability to check the status of
service requests, connect with your councilperson, find available parking
downtown, and locate public art and Regional Transportation Commission of
Southern Nevada (RTC) bus stops.
Another
feature is a tracker that shows riders of the city’s popular Downtown Loop
Shuttle how far a shuttle is from the stop where they are waiting. For more
information about the Downtown Loop, visit www.lasvegasnevada.gov/DowntownLoop.
The
new homeless services section on GOVegas is the latest effort by the city to
continue to help individuals break the cycle of homelessness. The Courtyard
Homeless Resource Center is a key component of the city’s homeless services
efforts. The Courtyard is a one-stop shop with access to medical, housing and
employment services through a variety of partners, providing a starting point
for those living on the street. It is located within the Corridor of Hope in
Ward 5, represented by Councilman Cedric Crear.
“We
are expanding our offerings to create more opportunities for our homeless
community to connect with resources and services, so that we can better help
those in need in our city,” Councilman Crear said.
The
Courtyard is located within the Corridor of Hope at 314 Foremaster Lane. Currently
the portion of the Courtyard at 1401 Las Vegas Blvd. North is being prepared
for construction. This site is the future home of new buildings with
classrooms, an intake center, shower and restroom facilities, and areas for
service providers to assist homeless individuals. The future courtyard also
will feature a kitchen, mailboxes and a pet kennel.
Construction
on this $10 million project is set to begin in the first quarter of 2019 and be
completed by the end of 2019.
