City Of Las Vegas Hosts Variety Of Hispanic Heritage Month Events

Festival, Movie, Soccer, Dancing, Food And More Scheduled From Sept. 6 to Nov. 2

 

The city of Las Vegas invites the community to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with a variety of events in September, October and November. All activities are subject to change. For more information, call 702-229-PLAY. De Chile, Mole y Pozole: Absence of Uniformity

Featuring the Ceramic Works of Brissa Arana
Sept. 6–Nov. 16, hours Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; closed weekends and holidays.

De Chile, Mole y Pozole offers an eclectic voyage into the mind of Las Vegas artist Brissa Arana.  Arana is a Mexican-American artist whose love for her Mexican roots motivated her to become a cultural advocate who travels abroad spreading the richness of her “mestizo” heritage through her sculptures. Join Mayor Carolyn G. Goodman and the City Council as they honor Hispanic heritage with a citywide proclamation during the City Council meeting that begins at 9 a.m.

Jack Cimo is a classically trained Spanish guitarist known for his powerful presence, beautiful tone, and exciting renditions. Having played the guitar since he was a toddler, his devotion to the instrument has directed the course of his life. He has more than 20 years of performing experience and is passionate about exploring different styles. He has a mastery of Spanish classics, romantic Italian music, and festive Central and South American pieces. His wide repertoire includes everything from Baroque and Renaissance music to avant-garde pieces and The Beatles. Sugar Skull Workshop, Celebrating Hispanic Heritage (ages 7+)

Cost: $15; open to beginner and intermediate levels.

This one-day workshop celebrates Hispanic heritage. Learn about the Mexican tradition of sugar skulls and create a colorfully decorated sugar skull to take home just in time for the “Dia de los Muertos” Mexican holiday. Advance registration required.
