City Of
Las Vegas Flag Football Team To Compete On White House Lawn
Scrimmage Set For
Wednesday, May 30, At 2 P.M. EDT
The
Las Vegas Patriots competitive flag football team, with players age 10 and
younger, has been invited to play a scrimmage on the White House lawn in Washington,
D.C., as part of a field day hosted by the President’s Council on Sports,
Fitness, and Nutrition. Undefeated champions in the city of Las Vegas NFL competitive
flag football program for the last five seasons, the team was invited to
represent Nevada. They are scheduled to play a team from another state Wednesday,
May 30, at 2 p.m. EDT.
“It will be an awesome experience
and the boys are really looking forward to it,” said coach Marc
Fish, who has three nephews on the team. “The team plays for its sixth straight
championship tonight!”
"These are all great boys that
work really hard, and there is a special team chemistry with the boys
and the parents. Many of the boys and parents are planning to go early to
experience Washington, D.C., and see the sights together," said coach
Jason Ahlstrom, who has two sons on the team. "Everyone is excited!"
Ahlstrom has coached his team for
five years in the city league, playing exclusively on city of Las Vegas fields.
He and Fish, who are brothers-in-law, currently coach two teams in the city
league, but in different age divisions. Fish’s son plays on the older team. The
Patriots team includes 12 players – Gavin Ahlstrom, Ty Ahlstrom, Benjamin
Chilton, Cash Creel, Cash Dunkerly, Johnny Fish, Jacob Garber, Reggie Mackay,
Jagger Mendenhall, Jack Olliges, Neal Pomerantz and Beckam Rafie. Several of
the current team members have been playing together since 2015. A few of the
boys have never experienced a loss; some of them are only 8 years old.
Feb. 27, 2018, President Trump, by
executive order, made changes to the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness,
and Nutrition. The current purpose of the Council is to expand and encourage
youth sports participation, and to promote the overall physical fitness,
health, and nutrition of all Americans.
