Dear District G Residents,

And just like that, it's back to school time! If you need school supplies for your kids, make sure to attend our Saturday Before School event at Whitney Recreation Center on Saturday, August 9th from 9:00am to 11:00am. Children must be present to receive backpacks and supplies, while they last. There will be raffles, health screenings and refreshments as well. Whitney Rec is located at 5712 E. Missouri Avenue. I hope to see you there.

I am also partnering with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Southeast Area Command on Tuesday, August 5th for their First Tuesday Backpack Giveaway. This event will run from 5:30pm to 7:00pm and one backpack per child will be given away, while supplies last. Children must be present to receive a backpack. The Southeast Area Command is located at 3675 E. Harmon.

I was honored to partner with Clark County Family Services and Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick on our Back to School Foster Care Initiative. The kick-off event held at the Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix (who generously donated the event space!) was a resounding success due to the 150 volunteers and extraordinary generosity of many community partners wanting to ensure our vulnerable children enter the school year with confidence and are equipped with the tools and resources necessary for academic success. Foster families enjoyed a free meal, dancing, face painting, and of course, loading up for school! We were able to provide new backpacks, essential school supplies, free haircut vouchers, uniforms, new shoes, health screenings, and much more for nearly 2,000 children in Clark County Foster Care. Diapers and wipes were also provided to 116 babies and toddlers currently in foster care. A heartfelt thanks to Baby's Bounty, Canyon Ridge Christian Church, Capriotti's Sandwich Shop, CASA Las Vegas, Clark County Fire Department, Cut & Taste, Daughters of the American Revolution Las Vegas Springs Chapter, DJ Quez, Eagle Quest, Events with a Twist, First 5 Nevada, First Med Health & Wellness, Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Foster Kinship, Lazy Dog Restaurant Town Square, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, Paul Mitchell The School, Peggy's Attic, Picerne Real Estate Group, Raise the Future, Scouts of America Las Vegas Council, Share in the Joy, Spring Valley Baptist Church, Southwest Airlines, Stage House Las Vegas, Therapy Blocks, Trilogy by Shea Homes, Twist & Glow Facepainting, and Western Elite. This 3-day event would not have been the success it was without all of these truly amazing community partners.

This month's Clark County Department Spotlight will be on Public Response. While the Clark County Public Response team performs a variety of functions, we'll share information about the Code Enforcement team, how to contact them, and what issues they address on a daily basis.

Clark County Public Response

Clark County's Public Response Team performs a variety of duties including code enforcement, graffiti abatement, addressing zoning violations, short term rental violations, single family residential building violations, animal protection services, homelessness and so much more.

The Public Response Office provides code enforcement for all of unincorporated Clark County. Code Enforcement Specialists follow-up on citizen complaints regarding neighborhood code violations related to Title 9, 11, and 30 of the Clark County Code, and facilitate the removal of trash, debris, graffiti, illegal short-term rentals, and illegal signs. Due to the size of unincorporated Clark County and the volume of work available, the Public Response Office works on a reactive basis ensuring the concerns of neighbors who have called in complaints are being addressed. For convenience of our residents, Clark County has developed an online system, called Fix It Clark County, that allows code enforcement and graffiti complaints to be filed electronically. You can also email the Public Response department at PublicResponseInfo@ClarkCountyNV.gov to report issues.

The Clark County Graffiti Abatement Program assists with the removal of graffiti vandalism from private, owner-occupied, single-family residential properties. Permission from the property owner is required. In 2024 alone, over 13,000 graffiti tags were removed. To report graffiti, you can contact the Clark County Graffiti Hotline at (702) 455-4509.

In recognition of National Purple Heart Day, we invite our community to attend our annual ceremony on Wednesday, August 7 at 8am at Purple Heart Plaza (101 Market St.). Presented in partnership with Purple Heart Chapter 730, this event honors the brave men and women who have sacrificed in service to our nation.

Register for the Sprinkle Dash Kids Color Run

Get ready to dash to the sweetest run! Registration for Sprinkle Dash Kids Color Run is now open. On September 27, kids can run through four color stations at O'Callaghan and show off their vibrant new fit. This event includes bounce houses, sweet treats, a dance party and so much more.
