If you can, make sure to visit the Black History Month exhibit at Whitney Recreation Center. Every year, they do a fantastic job displaying important black history artifacts and documenting historical events. I highly recommend you check it out.

Believe it or not, it is almost time to begin to recruit for teachers and all other vacant positions for the coming 2025-2026 School Year. In August, 2024, the Clark County School District began the new school year with over 1400 teacher vacancies. We do not want that to happen again. In addition, there are still vacant positions for the current school year.
You can be part of the solution of finding the best candidates for those vacant teaching positions including Career and Technical positions and for all other vacant positions, including administrative, IT, school nurses and psychologists, school safety officers, operations, skilled trades, bus drivers, etc.
We have found that a virtually untapped pool of potential candidates are veterans, Nevada National Guard Members, Reservists, those planning to leave the service within a year, their spouses and spouses of active-duty personnel. We are working with Nellis and Creech Air Force Bases, organizations like Work for Warriors, Association of United States Army, Air and Space Forces Association, State agencies that serve military related people, community groups that focus on military related people like the LV Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and the USO and many others for this outreach. Your help is also needed!
Why might these military-related people be good candidates? In general, they have the following characteristics or skills:
- They love our country, have a sense of duty, and are mission or goal driven
- They are responsible, have a strong work ethic and are dedicated
- They are organized and are disciplined
- They are able to adapt to changing situations
- They have demonstrated skills to lead and motivate others
- They are able to work as productive members of a team
How then can you personally be part of the solution; how can you help us find this virtually, untapped pool of candidates? Do you have a son, daughter, niece, nephew, next door neighbor or friend who is part of this potential pool? These are rare opportunities for those who would like a second career in which they can continue to make a difference to our country, to our community and to the students of this community.
