Dear District G Residents,

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving and were able to enjoy a good meal spending time with your families and friends. For those not so fortunate or if you just need a little extra help, Whitney Recreation Center will be holding their Holiday Food Distributions on December 5th and December 17th.  See the flyer in this newsletter for more information. It's hard to believe we are already in the midst of another holiday season. We have been busy planning several festive events in our district. Check out this newsletter for some fun things to do to help you get in the holiday spirit. 

I am aware that many of our neighborhoods have real concerns with homeless encampments and the like. Some of the most frustrating challenges we face are that we offer resources to the homeless, only to have them refuse the help and we have our Clark County teams clean up the encampments, only for the homeless people to return a few hours later. On November 5, 2024, the Clark County Board of Commissioners voted to pass a Camping Ban ordinance that will take effect on February 1, 2025.  This ordinance will enable us to intensify our efforts in combatting these issues that are plaguing our communities.

As you likely know, there has been a tremendous problem with copper thieves stealing wire from Clark County streetlights resulting in outages for blocks at a time. At the November 5th Board of County Commissioners meeting, we voted to adopt amendments to Title 12 and Title 6 of the Clark County code, which includes prohibitions and limitations on the purchase of scrap metal. To further address this issue, our Clark County Public Works department has doubled their streetlight repair staff since the beginning of the year and starting November 25, 2024, Public Works implemented swing shifts to further increase productivity. Wire theft remains a challenge, but we are working diligently to replace streetlights with new wire. In some areas with repeated wire theft, we have started taking the wire overhead to make access more difficult and are replacing copper wire with aluminum wire. We also have an upcoming wire replacement project scheduled to begin early 2025 to address a portion of our backlog of streetlight locations in need of repair due to wire theft.

There is also a real and dangerous issue with illegal street racing in our neighborhoods. On Wednesday, December 4th, I will be holding a neighborhood meeting with Clark County Public Works and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to discuss solutions to street racing. Kick off the Holidays with WinterFest

Officers will be collecting gently used or new coats, warm outerwear, clothing and new, unwrapped toys to support children in our community. The movie "Elf" will be shown starting at 6pm. Enjoy free hot cocoa and coffee. Receive one free raffle ticket (10max) for every donated item, for a chance to win a gift basket.
