On Tuesday, October 1, join Henderson Libraries for a reading and visit with this year’s APPLE Partnership author, Tae Keller. The writer of acclaimed children’s book When You Trap a Tiger, Keller will be talking about how and why she developed this important story. This unique book was honored with the 2021 Newbery Medal.
Pulling in details from her Korean and biracial heritage, Keller came up with the book’s concept by desiring to write something relatable for many people. While on the surface, When You Trap a Tiger seems like a children’s story, the book delves into deeper topics through incorporating lessons of Korean folktales. As Keller says, “I wanted to reflect the Asian American experience of having all your cultural stories blended into one narrative.”
“The APPLE Partnership is a wonderful way that we are able to bring award-winning authors to our community,” says Henderson Libraries Executive Director Marcie Smedley. “We are grateful to our local partners for supporting literacy and making these types of visits possible. We are excited to welcome Tae to Henderson!”
You won’t want to miss this event, which is open to all ages. Tae Keller will be in the Reading Room at the Paseo Verde Library on Tuesday, October 1 from 6 – 7 p.m. Books will be available for purchase through The Writer’s Block and Tae will be available to sign books after her presentation.
This free APPLE Partnership event is part of a cooperative effort between Henderson Libraries, the City of Henderson, and the Clark County School District.
