April 2024
Dear District G Residents,
In last month's newsletter, I told you about our Annual Spring Job Fair that was held on March 8th. Wow - close to 4,000 people attended and 850 job seekers were hired on the spot! After receiving feedback from our 136 participating employers, they expected an additional 3,000 to be hired after paperwork processing. If you attended the Spring Job Fair, I hope you found success.
Since the pickleball courts have opened in Sunset Park, we've held a Commissioner's Cup Pickleball Tournament each year. I'm pleased to let you know we are coming up on our FOURTH Annual Commissioner's Cup on April 26th and 27th. See the flier below for registration and event information.
I am sponsoring the Wetlands Park BioBlast event on Saturday, April 27th from 9:00am until 1:00pm. Please come out to this free event to learn about the plants and animals at Wetlands. There will be science stations, games and activities. No registration is necessary.
As always, do not hesitate to email me at DistrictG@clarkcountynv.gov or call my office at (702) 455-3500 with any questions or concerns you may have. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The Clark County School District (CCSD) has begun to recruit personnel for the 2024-2025 School Year. As of today, CCSD estimates it will need at least 1400 new teachers and approximately 500 new support staff. Those numbers will probably increase with retirements and attrition.
Heroes to Education is a public-private non-profit partnership working with CCSD and other school districts in our state (with no cost to the districts, the State, or the Participant). Their goal is to make veterans, Nevada National Guard members, Reservists, those leaving military service within a short period of time, their spouses, and the spouses of active-duty personnel aware of opportunities in Nevada Public Education in general and in Clark County in particular that will allow them to continue to make a difference in a second career.
How can we reach these military-related people to make them aware of the range of opportunities available in our school districts including K-12 teaching, career-technical teaching positions, administrative, school nurse, social worker, Occupational and Physical Therapists, school safety officers, IT, operations, skilled trade, bus driver, etc.? I am asking you, the people of this district, to make your sons, daughters, husbands, wives, nieces and nephews who are returning from fulfilling their service commitments, or who are veterans, National Guard members, Reservists and their spouses, aware of these meaningful opportunities.
PLEASE SHARE THE FLYER BELOW WITH YOUR FAMILY MEMBERS and FRIENDS IN THIS NEW POOL OF POTENTIAL CANDIDATES. TOGETHER WE CAN HELP TO BUILD STRONG SCHOOLS FOR OUR CHILDREN, YOUTH AND FAMILIES.

Metro's Convention Center Area Command is at the epicenter of the Strip corridor. They would not be able to address as many incidents as they do without their partnership with resort and retail security teams. Here are just a few recent examples of Security Personnel and LVMPD working together to ensure the safety of our locals and visitors alike:
- A Resort Security Officer was patrolling the casino floor when he heard a male yelling in the restroom. He observed a transient male pushing a 12 year-old victim into a wall. The Officer began to escort the subject off of the property due to his violence and having multiple prior trespass incidents. The subject then attacked the Security Officer from behind, causing several injuries. Valet employees were able to assist with detaining the violent suspect. The Security Officer's actions along with the valet employees help potentially stopped this subject from harming other vulnerable guests at the property.
- Security Officers responded to an incident regarding a male who was previously trespassed for “casing” the resort's main cage and casino gaming areas. Officers contacted the subject and positively identified him. They determined he was in violation of a prior trespass warning; Officers attempted to place the subject into mechanical restraints for trespassing, but he resisted and was assisted to the floor. When Officers were placing him into restraints, a firearm was observed in his right-side waistband. Officers were able to successfully place the subject into restraints and the firearm was recovered from his waistband. LVMPD was requested and as a result the subject was transported to CCDC for, Trespassing, Registered Person in Possession of a Firearm, and Carry Concealed Weapon w/o Permit.
- A Strip Resort Security Officer observed a subject casing vehicles to burglarize in the parking garage. The Security Manager and Security Officers assisted with taking the suspect into custody. A pneumatic handgun, bolt cutters, and other tools were located on the subject. The subject was arrested for Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Carry Concealed Weapon w/o Permit, Possession of Burglary Tools, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Due to these security personnel’s actions, a crime was ceased and a criminal was removed from the Strip.
- Resort Security was advised that there was a male pointing a firearm at guests in the casino. The Security Supervisor and Security Officer were able to disarm the subject and take him into custody without further incident. This resulted in a violent gang member being taken off of our community streets. This goes hand in hand with LVMPD’s vision to be the safest community in America. The suspect was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Carry Concealed Weapon w/o a Permit, and Possess Gun Under Influence of Alcohol.
