December 2023
Dear District G Residents,
The holiday season is here and in full force! I hope you had a nice Thanksgiving filled with family, friends and good food. December reminds us of the spirit of giving, and if able, it's a wonderful time to help those in need, especially children. We just held a heartwarming event at Robert Taylor Elementary School providing each student with a brand new pair of shoes. The excitement and gratitude from the kids were inspiring!
Also in the spirit of giving, we are holding a Pickleball Police & Fire Paddle Battle and Toy Drive at Sunset Park on December 8th. Please consider attending and bringing an unwrapped toy to the event. All collected donations will be provided to the Clark County Paradise Community Center. More details are in the flier below.
The cities of Henderson and Boulder City are also holding several events to celebrate the holidays. See the fliers under their sections for more information.
I hope you have a safe holiday season and I wish you a very Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa!
As always, do not hesitate to email me at DistrictG@clarkcountynv.gov or call my office at (702) 455-3500 with any questions or concerns you may have. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram and X.

On November 28th, we held our annual Whitney Community Tree Lighting event. Along with District G staff, Whitney staff and volunteers, I was joined by LVMPD's Southeast Area Command Captain Jeff Clark. Christmas carolers from Vegas Voices provided the festive entertainment and cookies and delicious hot chocolate were served to those in attendance. It was a festive way to kick off the holiday season.

Also on November 28th, in partnership with Shoes That Fit, we were able to provide each student at Robert Taylor Elementary School a brand new pair of shoes! A big shout-out to the Henderson Police Department for volunteering and providing new socks to go along with the new kicks. Many thanks to School Principal Mrs. Basham and her team, Spread the Word Nevada, the Sun City Women's Club and all the volunteers who took part in putting smiles on these kids' faces. It was a heart-warming morning just in time for the holidays and I was pleased to be a part of it.

We've decided to add a new section to the District G newsletter highlighting some commendable crime-fighting efforts in protecting locals and tourists alike. Along with the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Convention Center Area Command who oversees the tourist corridor on Las Vegas Boulevard, security personnel of our resort hotels are a vital part of keeping The Strip safe. Here are just a few (of many!) examples in the past couple of months of what they face day in and day out. Thank you to the hotel security teams and our Metro officers for their selflessness and dedicated hard work.
- At a Strip resort in September, hotel security officers contacted a distraught female who appeared to be a victim of human trafficking. The female was scared, had bruises and cuts on her body and stated she was being physically abused by her pimp. Due to the security officer's awareness and compassion, they were able to get the victim the help she needed to get her home safely.
- On 09-16-2023, a hotel resort security team collaborated with LVMPD detectives to create a case against two subjects who attempted to pick pocket a victim inside of their casino. Security personnel were able to detain two subjects who attempted to steal items from a victim’s purse as she was walking through the casino floor. The two subjects were ultimately arrested for Conspiracy Larceny From Person.
- Also in September, security personnel responded to an auto burglary occurring in their parking lot. Call details stated a subject was attempting to break into vehicles by pulling on door handles. The subjects inside of the vehicle were contacted and security personnel were able to assist LVMPD in apprehending a subject who had an outstanding warrant. A fast coordinated response ensured others would not be victimized by these suspects
- Resort security personnel located a subject walking on Las Vegas Blvd wearing a facemask and a trench coat. The subject was making gun gestures with his hands and stated he was carrying a gun. Security contacted the LVMPD and assisted Officers in locating the subject. The subject was ultimately taken into custody and was found to have a glass breaking tool, seatbelt cutter, and a kitchen knife on his person. He was charged with Carrying Concealed Weapon without a Permit, Possession of Burglary Tools, Disorderly Conduct, and Obstruction. Security surveillance did a great job locating this subject as the male was not in the proper mental capacity to be carrying a long-bladed object around the strip corridor where many citizens and tourists gather.
The Clark County Fire Department is partnering with the Firefighters of Southern Nevada Burn Foundation to support the 23rd annual “Fill the Fire Truck” holiday toy drive for the first three weeks of December.
