After much anticipation, phase one of the Hollywood Regional Park expansion is complete and open for your enjoyment. During the grand opening, there were food trucks, face painting and lots of fun giveaways. If you have not already been to the park, you should stop by. It is beautiful. A great big THANK YOU to everyone involved in the planning and construction of the park.
On June 10, we had the opportunity to celebrate the Juneteenth Holiday a little early at the Cambridge Recreation Center. There were community partners, paint stations, local vendors, bounce houses for kids, free hair cuts, yummy soul food from Family Soul, and lots of family fun!
Fireworks labeled "safe and sane" are the only type of consumer fireworks allowed in Clark County and local cities from June 28 through July 4. With the kickoff of the summer travel and the July 4th holiday under way, Clark County and partnering agencies are asking the public to follow the rules once again regarding fireworks.
All fireworks, including those labeled "safe and sane," are a concern during the spring and summer months when the treat of wildfire is highest in Southern Nevada. Fireworks of any kind are not allowed at Clark County Wetlands Park, local parks, or on public lands in the region including Mount Charleston, Lake Mead and Red Rock Canyon.
The inter-agency "You Light It, We Write It" campaign to educate the public about what's allowed and not allowed - and the penalties if caught using illegal fireworks. Information about the initiative is available at www.YouLightItWeWriteIt.Vegas. Residents are also urged not to call 911 to report illegal fireworks in order to keep 911 free for life-threatening emergencies. Instead, the public is asked to report complaints about illegal fireworks online at www.ispyfireworks.com.
