Clark County Commissioner Michael Naft, was joined by area residents and dignitaries for a groundbreaking ceremony kicking off construction of the two-story, 37,000-square-foot Silverado Ranch Community Center on Monday, Feb. 13.
The facility is being built at the northeast corner of the Silverado Ranch Park, which is located at 9855 Gillespie Street. Expected to be completed in early 2024, the Silverado Ranch Community Center will feature a vast array of modern amenities, including an indoor walking track with two 3-foot-wide lanes, a state-of-the-art exercise and fitness room, dance and yoga amenities, a teaching kitchen, indoor gymnasium, multipurpose classrooms, conference room space, an arts and crafts area, and a breakroom.
“We spent a lot of time gathering input from the residents of Silverado Ranch about exactly what they wanted for their community center,” said Naft. “I’m glad that we’re now able to break ground on a new state-of-the-art facility that meets their needs. The fact that this is the first new community center to be built by the County in nearly a decade makes this occasion especially noteworthy.”

Commissioner Michael Naft joined the 'Shoes That Fit' organization to deliver 650 pairs of shoes to students at Helen Jydstrup Elementary on the southwest side of town.
"Having properly fitting, clean, and comfortable shoes lays the foundation for success in and out of the classroom. I am proud to be partnering with Shoes That Fit and The Tropicana Coalition to provide a pair of shoes and socks to every student at Jydstrup Elementary School," Commissioner Naft said.
"Shoes are intrinsically important to kids. Too many low-income families are forced to choose rent and food over shoes, leaving children wearing shoes that hurt, embarrass them, cause them to miss out on physical activities and sometimes miss school altogether," said Shoes That Fit CEO Amy Fass. "New shoes make a basic and lasting impact. We are so grateful to Clark County and Commissioner Naft for meeting a basic need and making a lasting impact on the lives of these kids."

On January 25 Clark County activated its newest traffic signal at the intersection of Las Vegas Boulevard and Agate. The intersection received four new traffic signal poles with signals, updated intersection lighting, four updated ADA access ramps, and sidewalk to connect to surrounding infrastructure, new striping and signage. New pavement will be completed throughout the intersection once warmer temperatures permit it.
Commissioner Michael Naft was joined for the activation by the family of Andrew Melnichuk who tragically died in a crash at the intersection in 2021. His family was honored during the traffic light activation ceremony as county officials continue to raise awareness for pedestrian safety.
"We are fortunate in our community to have some incredibly courageous individuals," said Commissioner Naft. "That includes the family of Andrew Melnichuck who so bravely work to make sure no other family has to suffer a loss like theirs."
It is critically important that we all pay close attention not only to the traffic laws, but also to the unexpected obstacles and dangers that may present themselves, especially at night. In fact, 80% of all pedestrian fatalities occur between times from dusk to dawn when visibility is much more limited. Every year in Nevada approximately 50,000 crashes are reported on our roads.
