Team Jones and Parks and Recreation staff hosted a Lunar New Year / Spring Festival at Desert Breeze Recreation Center. The event highlighted some of the amazing cultural offerings that our AAPI communities bring to our region with performances from talented artists, amazing arts and crafts displays, vendors providing referrals to community resources as wells as a variety of food trucks offering various delicacies. Huge thanks to the Desert Breeze staff for and our amazing community partners at the Asian Community Resource Center providing resources and Nevada Chinese Association for being a part of the event providing various talented performances.

On January 21st, Team Jones and Team Naft hosted a Coffee and Conversations event at Romano Mercato Italiano in Henderson. We were joined by State Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant and Henderson Executive Airport Director Bruce Daugherty as we answered questions that covered various topics over a delicious cup of coffee and a sugary pastry. Thank you to Chef Tony and his wonderful staff over at Romano Mercato Italiano for hosting our staff and assisting us with our event.

On January 9th, the Welcome To Las Vegas sign (and many other signs along the Las Vegas Strip) turned blue in celebration of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Commissioner Jones joined his colleagues Michael Naft and Marilyn Kirkpatrick to show their gratitude to the officers and civiliam members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department who protect and serve our community every day.

Last weekend Team Jones was joined by Team Knudsen as we visited Davis Park for some needed park maintenance. The amazing group of volunteers organized by Get Outdoors Nevada focused on reducing the amount of micro trash that is embedded within the ground around the fields. Special shout out to all the volunteers that took the time to come out to join us and thank you to Councilman Brian Knudsen for joining Team Jones in sponsoring and participating in the event.
District F is home to the largest AAPI community in Clark County and it continues to grow as more AAPI owned businesses open or move into the District. On January 21st Commissioner Jones was joined by Assemblywoman Danielle Gallant and Assemblyman Duy Nguyen to celebrate the newest location of the first-ever Nevada location for Tous Les Jours.

This last weekend Commissioner Jones attended the Clean Energy & Transportation Conference representing Clark County as a board member of the RTC of Southern Nevada.
The conference highlighted is the importance of continuiung to pursue clean energy projects and promote reducing our carbon emissions. Two of the way to do this is by choosing alternative methods of transportation such as electric vehicles or hydrogen fuel-cell based vehicles and promoting the use of energy efficient technologies that help enhance sustainability efforts being researched or developed.

On January 26th, Commissioner Jones joined Clark County Social Services, the City of North Las Vegas, Help Hope Home and over 500 volunteers in the annual Homesless Census Count at over 15 locations across Clark County.
The homeless census is a qualifying requirement for grants that provide more than $13 million annually to local organizations that provide homeless services and programs. The count also provides important information about the homeless in our community and the need for programs and services.

Clark County Parks & Recreation's Aquatics Program is now recruiting people 15 ½ years and older to work as lifeguards, cashiers, and swim instructors at facilities throughout the Las Vegas Valley.
Interested people can submit a part-time application online by at: https://bit.ly/3m4FzmE. After applications are received, candidates will be interviewed and required to perform pre-requisite skills for the lifeguard class. Skills include 50 yards of freestyle swimming, 50 yards of freestyle swimming with a lifeguard rescue tube, one minute of treading water without using hands, and the retrieval of a 10-pound object from the bottom of the pool. Candidates who meet pre-requisites will be hired and paid to attend lifeguard training.
