Over 1,300 people joined Commissioner Jones and Clark County Parks and Rec to celebrate the grand opening of Southwest Ridge Park and Traihead on September 30th. The party included a performance from Arabesque Dance and Fitness Studio and great food from Your Panadas and ERB's Vegan Kitchen. Prevail Marketplace presented a farmer's market and will be bringing their fresh produce back for another market event at the park on October 14th.

Commissioner Jones, Accelero Learning, Metro, and other community partners are having an Epic Halloween Block Party at the Lied Boys and Girls Club on Thursday, October 27th. Head over to 2850 S. Lindell Road from 5:30 to 8 pm for some spooktacular fund and games.
The southwest valley is a little safer today thanks to the recent completion of Fire Station 35 near Flamingo and Hualapai. Instead of the traditional ribbon, Commissioner Jones used the jaw of life to cut a fire hose to celebrate the grand opening of the 10,000 square foot station. The Howard Hughes Corporation funded the design, development and construction of the new fire station and donated the land on which it sits as part of its development agreement with Clark County. This represents a $10 million investment in the area's infrastructure.

The La Cultura festival was held at Desert Breeze in recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month. Attendees enjoyed live cultural performances, pop up shops, food vendors, games, and more. Commissioner Jones joined in the celebration to recognize how lucky we are to have a vibrant, growing, and resilient Hispanic community here in Clark County.

National Night Out is an annual, nationwide event focused on crime prevention and community safety awareness. It is a great opportunity for residents to meet their first responders and learn more about what they do to keep their neighborhoods safe. Commissioner Jones was lucky enough to get to visit with the Officers of South Central and Enterprise Area Commands at Town Square (photos above) and Spring Valley Are Command at Downtown Summerlin. (photo below)
Team Jones, Clark County Public Works, Clark County Parks & Recreation, and LVMPD share information with more than 80 residents at the Mountain's Edge Community Forum. Topics of discussion included upcoming projects in District F, road improvements, and park expansion plans.

As Halloween approaches, it is fun to look back on how they celebrated Halloween the Clark County in years gone by. The top row of images is a selection of snippets from the Las Vegas Age newspaper. From left to right the years are 1941, 1907, and 1906. The photo on the left shows kids in costumes at Vegas Heights Elementary school in the 1940s. The photo on the right is from 1950. Notice the bandaids on the little witches legs! The years and styles may change, but kids will always be kids! Happy Halloween!
