October 2022
Dear District G Residents,
For the past 5 years, the beginning of October has been a somber time in our community. It is important that we acknowledge 1 October in honor of the lives lost, the families devastated and the injured whose lives have been changed forever. They were our neighbors and loved ones and this community rushed into action and provided security, strength, love and all the support it could muster in the frightening hours and dark days that followed. We also acknowledge and honor those efforts of a united community of citizens who were entirely focused on meeting others' needs. On Saturday, October 1, Clark County will be holding a Sunrise Remembrance Ceremony at 7:30am. For more information, check out the flyer in the Community News section.
National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie. On October 4th, I will be joining the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department's Convention Center Area Command at Harmon at 370 Apartments from 5:00pm - 7:00pm. There will be free food, music and lots of fun stuff for the kids. The address is 370 E. Harmon Avenue.
I can't forget our annual Trunk or Treat, our Halloween celebration that is always a big hit. This year we'll be at Silverbowl Park on October 27. For more information, see the flyer under the Upcoming District G Events section.
As always, do not hesitate to email me at DistrictG@ClarkCountyNV.gov or call my office at (702) 455-3500 with any questions or concerns you may have. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

On Friday, September 2nd, we decided to hold an Astronomy in the Park event instead of our usual Movie in the Park. Movie nights are always fun too, but we thought something different might be cool! Thank you to the Las Vegas Astronomical Society, Clark County Wetlands Park and Abuela's Tacos for a fun and educational Friday night out! The Wetlands Nature Center was a perfect backdrop for a clear night of planet gazing through telescopes powerful enough to see the rings of Saturn, the Orion Nebula, and Jupiter and at least 2 of its moons. The event was really popular so be rest assured, if you missed it this time, we'll have future events like this. Keep an eye out for flyers and this newsletter for information.
To recognize and remember September 11th, Commissioner Kirkpatrick and I held a 9/11 Never Forget Remembrance Ceremony and Car Show. We must never forget the lives lost, the heroes that did what heroes do, and how our country was changed forever. After the ceremony, we held a Car Show and provided free hamburgers and hotdogs.

We held our Mexican Independence Celebration at Whitney Recreation Center on September 16th to recognize Hispanic Heritage Month. Entertainment was provided by Mariachi Vegas Internacional and Ballet Folklorico Alborado de Sunrise Mountain High School. We had arts & crafts tables as well as story time for the kids, always delicious food from Abuela's Tacos and ice pops from Peace Pops, a company started by 10-year old Joshua Peace! Thanks to the Whitney Recreation Staff for coordinating such a great event. And of course, thanks to our Whitney neighbors for coming out - we hope you had a great time.
Congratulatons to the Paseo Verde Little League (Henderson, NV) for winning the Nevada State Title and advancing to the finals of the Little League Mountain Regional tournament for 11 and 12 year olds. It was a pleasure meeting the team and the coaches at the September 20th Board of County Commissioners meeting. It was really fun to celebrate their outstanding season and I'm sure they didn't mind missing a couple of hours of school to accept their proclamation!
I attended the grand opening of Clark County Museum's temporary exhibit, "Five Years Later: Remembering 1 October & Becoming Vegas Stronger." The exhibit is a retrospective look at how the local and global community united together to remember the victims and support the survivors and community after 1 October. A small fraction of the museum's over 22,000 objects of the 1 October Collection will be on display to represent not only what was left at the impromptu memorial at the "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign but also six different ways that the community grieved and remembered the victims along with how they supported the survivors and community. The exhibit runs through January 30, 2023 and the museum is located at 1830 S. Boulder Highway.
