The event will feature the Las Vegas Multiagency Honor Guard, remarks from Frank Pizarro, a firefighter who survived the attack in New York City on that day in 2001, remarks from Clark County Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick and Commission Chairman Jim Gibson, the "ringing of the bell" ceremony to honor firefighters who gave their lives in the terrorist attacks, a musical performance by Technical Sgt. Ben Ekblad, an active-duty Nellis Air Force Base service member, prayer and more.
Pizarro, a 21½ -year New York City firefighter, will display a restored 1991 Pierce Pumper fire engine used to carry caskets of fallen firefighters across the West Coast at the ceremony. The firefighter memorial transport is dedicated to the memory of Raymond Pfeifer, who died from a 9/11-related illness and who went to Washington, D.C., with television host Jon Stewart to fight for a 9/11 victims compensation fund.
A Nellis Air Force jet will perform a flyover of the event during the singing of the National Anthem. Clark County Fire Chief John Steinbeck, who deployed to New York’s Ground Zero with a FEMA team after the attack, will serve as master of ceremonies.
Free hotdogs and hamburgers will be served while supplies last and a live disc jockey, DJ Jimbroski, will perform. Attendees will be able to help paint a 9/11 mural. The car show is supported by the Las Vegas Cruisin’ Association and Avenue Motorsports. First responder-support organizations will be in attendance accepting donations.
Hope to see you there.

I was proud to help cut the ribbon at the Grand Opening of the Coral Academy of Science Las Vegas in Cadence. Congratulations to them on their newest campus!
At the August 16 Board of County Commissioners meeting, I was pleased to present a proclamation to recognize the Las Vegas News Bureau's 75th anniversary!
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority Archives Las Vegas News Bureau Collection has documented Las Vegas' history and helped promote tourism to Southern Nevada since 1947. The archive collection began as part of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce in 1947 to increase tourism by promoting Southern Nevada as "The Entertainment Capital of the World" and in 1992 was transferred to the LVCVA, where it continues to grow and be shared in marketing and promotional efforts.
The collection's offerings over the years have become a valuable resource to the news media, filmmakers, documentary producers and researchers with many images garnering worldwide acclaim and becoming synonymous with Las Vegas. With more than 7 million images, 11,000 pieces of film and video, and 1,300 linear-feet of manuscripts and artifacts, the archive is estimated to be the largest and most comprehensive post-World War II collection of Southern Nevada imagery in the world.

Continuing the community’s year-round effort to conserve our most precious natural resource, mandatory Fall watering restrictions are in effect Sept. 1 through Oct. 31.
Fall watering restrictions limit landscape irrigation to three days per week. Find your assigned watering days and get information on seasonal watering restrictions at snwa.com.
As the transition month, early September can still bring some high temperatures of 100F or more, but they come late in the day and don’t persist. Plants or areas of lawn that show stress may be given supplemental water using a handheld hose, which is always allowed.
Sprinkler watering other than on your three assigned days is considered water waste, which may result in a water-waste fee. Drip irrigation is permitted any day of the week but may not occur more than three days per week.

County music singer Sam Riddle will perform his song, “Vegas Strong,” and other works.
Clark County and the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department are co-hosting the event with the Clark County Fire Department and the Vegas Strong Resiliency Center.
The Sunrise Remembrance will be aired live on Clark County Television (CCTV) and possibly local news media television stations and websites. The ceremony will be carried live at www.Facebook.com/ClarkCountyNV, https://www.youtube.com/user/ClarkCountyNV/live, www.Twitter.com/ClarkCountyNV and https://www.twitch.tv/clarkcountynv. CCTV is available in the Las Vegas area on Channel 4 on Cox cable as well as in Laughlin on Channel 14 via Suddenlink. CCTV is also available in Boulder City on Channel 4 and in Moapa Valley on Digital Channel 50.3. One also may watch on streaming devices such as Roku, Apple TV and Amazon Fire TV via the YouTube app.
A recording of the event will be available on-demand later in the day on the County’s Facebook page and the following Monday on its YouTube page.
Following the ceremony, attendees may wish to visit the Government Center rotunda, where the Clark County Museum will set up an exhibit that accompanies an exhibit at its own facility in Henderson, which will explore the community’s grief and healing process since the shooting. The retrospective is called “5 Years Later: Remembering 1 October & Becoming Vegas Stronger” and features letters, posters, signs, and other items from the museum’s 22,000-piece 1 October collection. The free rotunda exhibit may be viewed from Wednesday, Sept. 28 through Thursday, Oct. 13. The Government Center is open Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The Rotunda will be open on Saturday, Oct. 1 until noon.
There also will be a display to inform the public of the ongoing work of Clark County’s 1 October Memorial Committee, which was established by the Clark County Commission to gather input to build a permanent memorial that remembers those who perished in the attack, honors survivors, first responders and all those affected by the incident, and celebrates the resiliency of our community. The rotunda also contains the Angels of Love exhibit, which features glass angels in remembrance of the lives lost and the hundreds of people wounded as well as memorabilia to honor law enforcement and agencies that responded to the attack. The exhibit was given to Clark County by the Angels of Love organization of Orange County, Calif., for the first anniversary of the Route 91 shooting.
This Sunrise Remembrance is one of several #VegasStronger activities being held this year to honor victims and survivors of the attack and to highlight the community’s unity and strength in the aftermath of 1 October.
