Trees aren't just pretty to look at - they produce oxygen, clean the soil, reduce noise pollution, and provide shade and cooling among many other things. On July 23rd, Commisisoner Jones and staff joined ImpactNV, Metro, Get Outdoors Nevada, and the Las Vegas Prospects youth baseball team to plant 10 trees at Desert Breeze Park. Local data that shows that areas surrounding Desert Breeze are among the most heat vulnerable parts in the community. Planting these trees will help to reduce the heat island effect as well as provide all of those great benefits trees provide. The Chinese Pistachio, Holly Oak, and Red Push Pistachio trees planted at this event are part of ImpactNV's initiative to plant 100,000 trees throughout Nevada in 10 years.

At the Family Resource Fair held at Desert Breeze Community Center on July 30th kids received backpacks and school supplies - and more! Attendees also enjoyed raffles, games, food trucks, rides, activities, and lots of fun! The event was made possible by many generous community partners including the Jet Foundation, Clark County Fire, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Foundation, Dreamsickle Kids Foundation, and Health Plan of Nevada.

Clark County and area emergency managers are asking community members to participate in a survey to gather public input on the top hazards Southern Nevada faces and to support community resiliency. The survey is part of a joint effort to update the County’s Multi-Jurisdictional Hazard Mitigation Plan. The Plan is updated every 5 years and provides an opportunity to re-assess risks posed by natural, technological, and human-caused disasters and identify ways to mitigate those risks.
It’s available here: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/ClarkCountyMJHMP2023.

With the monsoons back this year, it is interesting to look back on some photos of fllod events of the past. "Turn Around, Don't Drown" was as appropriate in 1920 as it is today.
Dr. Park and his flooded car - circa 1920
Road Washout - 1931
Flash flood - circa 1950
Caesar's Palace - 1975
