Dear District G Residents,

The new school year begins on Monday, August 8.  Parents and guardians can ensure their children are appropriately immunized at a Southern Nevada Health District immunization clinic. The Health District encourages parents and guardians to bring their kindergartners, 7th and 12th graders to its immunization clinics for their mandatory school vaccines before the first day of school. The Health District’s immunization clinics are open Monday through Friday. Walk-in immunization services are available at the 280 S. Decatur Blvd. public health center. Appointments for services at other neighborhood public health centers can be made by calling (702) 759-0850.  Starting July 1, students enrolled in the 12th grade in Nevada public, private, or charter schools must receive the meningococcal vaccine (MenACWY) prior to the start of the 2022-2023 school year. MenACWY is also required for students entering 7th grade and for students entering the 8th through 12th grades who are new to Nevada schools, including private or charter schools, and the Clark County School District. In addition, 7th graders must receive their tetanus-diphtheria-pertussis (Tdap) vaccine.

Dream Las Vegas Coming to the Las Vegas Strip

A couple of weeks ago I was honored to be part of the groundbreaking ceremony for Dream Las Vegas.  Set to open in late 2024, the resort will be 20 stories high, have over 500 rooms, seven experiential dining and nightlife venues, 12,000 square feet of meeting and event space and a 20,000-square-foot casino.  Thousands of jobs will be brought to our County with this exciting addition. Dream Las Vegas will be located on the south end of the Strip in District G.

HFD Station 97 Open House

Join Henderson Fire Department at Station 97, 1550 Amado Ln, on Saturday, August 27 from 10am-1pm. Meet your neighborhood firefighters, check out firefighting apparatus, tour the station and learn how you can help in an emergency.

Henderson is accepting applications to acknowledge our Hometown Heroes, active duty military servicemembers with ties to our community. Street banners bearing the name, rank and image of the honoree will be installed prior to Veterans Day and are displayed for one year along Water Street and Green Valley Parkway (south of Horizon Ridge Parkway). Nominations are due Sept. 1.

The City of Henderson is now accepting names for annual inclusion into its Veterans Memorial Wall. The Wall honors deceased veterans that lived in Henderson prior to 1980, all Vietnam War, Persian Gulf War and Global War on Terror veterans (either living or deceased) who were Henderson residents at the time of their service, and soldiers killed in action living in Henderson from 1980 to present.
