JUNE 2022
Commissioner Naft was pleased to help celebrate the recent graduates of District A's Helen Meyer Preschool. The 68 students, each heading off to Kindergarten, were celebrated in a ceremony attended by their friends and families and put on by Clark County Parks and Recreation.
Pre-school Prep and Kindergarten Prep are Licensed Preschool programs that provide children with a creative learning experience in which valuable developmental skills are fostered through social interaction and independent play. Skills introduced and developed are: letters and sounds, listening and following directions, writing letters, recognizing and writing numbers, recognizing quantities, counting 1 through 20, recognizing shapes, and sequencing and patterns. Commissioner Naft Partners with NV Treasurer Zach Conine for College Savings Seminar
On May 19, Commissioner Naft partnered with NV State Treasurer Conine for a College Savings seminar. Parents around District A were invited to attend the event, held at the Enterprise Library, to learn about different options to save for their child's college education.
The Treasurer kicked off the event by thanking everyone for attending and for taking the time to learn about how to help their children succeed academically. Then, his team of college-savings experts provided a presentation on different ways parents car start saving today: Nevada College Kickstart, NV529 Plans, Nevada Prepaid Tuition, Governor Guinn Millennium Scholarship, and the Student Loan Ombudsman service.
A raffle was also held at the event, to determine eight winners who received $250 toward their SSGA Upromise 529 account. Congratulations to all of the winners and to all young students who are now beginning their academic career with a solid foundation. Commissioner Naft recognized the National Lacrosse League's newest expansion team, The Las Vegas Desert Dogs, at the May 3 Commission meeting. Later this year, the Desert Dogs will play their first season playing at the Michelob Ultra Arena in District A.
Commissioner Naft joined CCSD's Safe Routes to School and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department for a bike rodeo at Gehring and Cartwright Elementary Schools. Students learned about bicycle safety on our roads, as Commissioner Naft passed out and fitted free helmets, to keep the students protected.
The Silverado Ranch Dog Park reopened on Saturday, May 21, after undergoing a highly-anticipated renovation. At the "renovation celebration" guests were able to enjoy new grass on the dog runs, shade from newly installed structures, and, as part of the event festivities, complimentary coffee and pastries, gifts from local pet supply stores, and information from our local shelters (The Animal Foundation and NSPCA).

All Clark County schools are offering summer classes five days a week for six hours. CCSD is tailoring this offering to support student learning and social-emotional well-being. This means that for many local students, school is not out for the summer. Please exercise caution as you drive through school zones and crosswalks, remember to drive the speed limits posted, and be mindful of when the flashers are activated.

The use of illegal fireworks in neighborhoods over the upcoming July 4 holiday has been a growing problem in the Las Vegas Valley. Clark County and partnering agencies are asking for the public’s help and cooperation to address the issue. Fireworks labeled “safe and sane” are the only type of consumer fireworks allowed in Clark County, and they are only from June 28 through July 4 each year. Clark County and partnering agencies created the “You Light It, We Write It” campaign, You Light It We Write It, to raise awareness about the public safety risks posed by illegal fireworks.
