Dear Residents of District E,
I hope you had a safe, happy and healthy holiday season with family and friends. During this holiday season, our constituents and neighborhood partners really stepped by assisting those who may have been affected by the pandemic. There were many events that were held throughout the district, and the compassion and generosity that was shown was overwhelming and humbling. In this New Year, let's continue to lend a hand up to our neighbors.
It's a New Year and that means a fresh start. Whether you have resolutions or personal goals in mind that you want to achieve, there is no better time to start them than now. As we enter into this New Year, COVID-19 cases are on the rise, therefore, we must stay vigilant and continue to practice social distancing and continue to wear masks. I would like to encourage everyone to get vaccinated and to get those booster shots. If we continue on the path that we're currently on, we can slow the spread and reduce the number of COVID-19 cases in our community. For more information on testing and vaccination sites, please look under the COVID-19 heading below.

On December 9, 2021, Commissioner Segerblom and Clark County Parks & Recreation broke ground on a 38 acre expansion to the Hollywood Regional Park. The park should be completed by early 2023. It will make Hollywood Regional the largest park on the east side of the valley. The improvements include the addition of a native desert garden, 4 dog runs, 8 pickleball courts, 4 soccer fields, a pedestrian connection between the aquatic center and the recreation center. The park will also have a vast network of walking trails with landscaping.

Cambridge Recreation in partnership with ChurchLV sponsored the Wonder of Christmas at the recreation center for children and their families. During the event, they were able to supply over 300 kids with toys, jackets, food and other supplies to brighten their holiday season. There was free gift wrapping and Shake Shack provided shakes for each participant. Staff was able to serve the large crowd safely while following all COVID-19 protocols. Congratulations on a successful event.
The In the Dales Christmas Event provided 88 families with Christmas dinner, toys and gift cards. Kids were also greeted by Santa and his helpers. During the event, a raffle for bicycles and helmets for the kids was held, and each family received a ticket to participate. All of the kids who attended the event also received a toy regardless of their age. There was something for everyone! Thank you to Power 88.1, Skate Rock City and the staff at Parkdale for a successful event.

Clark County has launched a community survey seeking input on the States mandate to regulate short-term rentals.
Short-term rentals such as Airbnb and VRBO are currently illegal in unincorporated Clark County. However, the passage of Assembly Bill 363 by the 2021 Nevada Legislature requires the County to enact an ordinance regulating short-term rentals by July 1.
Due to the potential impact of short-term rentals on neighborhoods quality of life, officials say the brief survey, which takes 10 to 15 minutes to complete is important and they urge County residents to take part. The survey asks about each participants experience with and their perception of short-term rentals in their neighborhood, as well as seeks community input on factors to consider in drafting the mandated ordinance.
The survey we be open until the end of January. Survey responses will be used to assist staff in drafting an ordinance to be presented to the County Commission. There may be additional ways to provide input in the months ahead. To participate in the survey, click the link www.ClarkCountynv.cgov/survey.
If you are interested in receiving updates about the County's implementation of AB 363, you can subscribe to updates at www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/subscribe.
During the cold weather months, it's important to ensure outdoor water use is managed wisely. Disconnect and drain garden hoses when not in use and insulate or wrap exposed irrigation pipes. To help avoid potential damage from leaks or broken lines, learn how to turn off irrigation backflow devices and water shut-off valves.
Plants also need attention during the cold weather months. If a plant becomes damaged by frost freeze, it is best to leave it alone until warmer weather arrives and new growth appears. Pruning or transplanting a damaged plant during winter months can hurt or even kill it. Additionally, consider covering plants with porous materials (old sheets, towels, burlap) at night to avoid frost. To find more ways to protect popes and plants from cold temperatures, visit snwa.com. And remember, only water one (1) day a week and never on Sundays!
