May 2021
Hello District G Residents,
Summer is right around the corner and many families are looking forward to visiting our community parks and recreation centers. I'm excited to announce a number of projects nearing completion as well as projects just breaking ground throughout District G that I believe you and your family will enjoy for years to come. Some of the recent improvements include a beautiful, new shade structure at Horseman's Park and the amazing, new Pickleball Tournament Complex at Sunset Park. With pickleball picking up popularity in recent years, these courts are a much needed addition to the amenities already offered at Sunset Park. To celebrate the grand opening, I will be hosting the Inaugural Commissioner's Cup Pickleball Tournament on Saturday, May 8th. While all the player slots have been filled, I invite you to attend the ribbon cutting ceremony and to see the world-class courts now available to our community.
Over the past year, it has been astonishing to watch our community come together to fight COVID-19. We have come a long way with hard work, dedication and collaborative efforts to mitigate the COVID-19 virus and re-open our economy. With hope on the horizon of putting this behind us, I encourage you to get vaccinated so we can continue to move forward. There are a number of Pop-Up COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics across the valley. Please visit the Southern Nevada Health District website for times and locations by clicking here.
There are a number of helpful and interesting articles available in this month’s newsletter including NV Energy Foundation CLEAN Grant, Summer watering schedule, COVID-19 Vaccination Sites and upcoming events and programs available at Whitney Recreation Center. When you have a few minutes, I would highly recommend taking time to see what’s happening in our community and how we’re trying to make it better.
As always, do not hesitate to email me at ccdistg@clarkcountynv.gov or call my office at (702) 455-5561 with any questions or concerns you may have. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Voters who choose to vote via mail ballot may safely drop off their voted ballot at the City Clerk’s office. For added convenience, the Parks and Recreation Building will also be a mail ballot drop-off site during the period of early voting. For those who prefer to vote in-person instead of by mail, you will need to do one of the following:
If you have your mail ballot, surrender your voted or unvoted mail ballot (preferably in the packet sent to you) to an election official at the voting site; or
If you do not have your mail ballot, you will be required to sign an affirmation at the voting site swearing that you have not already voted in the current election and that you understand no one may attempt to vote or actually vote more than once in the same election.

I was so happy to finally celebrate the grand opening of Horseman's Park new shade cover over the Flamingo Arena. I was especially glad to be accompanied by former Commissioner Mary Beth Scow who championed the funding to provide the shade cover before her departure from the board.
The arena has been improved with a new announcer’s booth, sound system, cover, bleachers, lighting, a newly paved entrance roadway and fencing.
Now 50 years old, Horseman’s Park opened in 1971 and is a 23-acre facility that includes eight barns with a horse washing area, two arenas, two training arenas, RV and trailer parking, two restroom buildings, and picnic areas.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announces the following nighttime Interstate 11 lane closures in Henderson.
Monday Night—Friday Morning (May 3-7)
• The right travel lane along southbound Interstate 11 between the Wagonwheel Drive offramp and Paradise Hills Drive will be closed from 7 p.m. until 6 a.m. nightly, starting the evening of May 3 and concluding the morning of May 7 in Henderson.
Sunday Night—Monday Morning (May 9-10)
• The right travel lane along southbound Interstate 11 between the Wagonwheel Drive offramp and Paradise Hills Drive will be closed from 7 p.m., May 9, until 6 a.m., May 10, in Henderson.
The temporary closures are part of a $12.7 million, 6-mile-long Interstate 11 upgrade between Mile Markers 16.8 and 22.8 that began work late last year. Las Vegas Paving is the general contractor. The project calls for removing the existing 14-year-old rubberized asphalt and replacing it with a crumb rubber overlay for a smoother, rejuvenated driving surface that also dampens ambient noise.
The job additionally repairs concrete slab bridge decks and approaches at East Paradise Hills and College drives, while installing decorative rock at the freeway interchanges for reduced soil erosion and better slope management. Other work entails new bridge painting and drainage enhancements, plus lighting and signage improvements.
Motorists should use caution while travelling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.
