March 2021
Hello District G Residents,
Spring is almost here! With such beautiful weather headed our way, I hope you and your family can get outdoors and enjoy one of our many parks and conservation areas across the valley. Our continued hard work and commitment to combatting the spread of COVID-19 is paying off. With Governor Sisolak's most recent directive, restrictions are beginning to loosen and, we hope, will continue to do so later this month. Clark County has worked diligently with the Southern Nevada Health District to organize and administer the huge vaccine effort here in the Las Vegas Valley. I have included our most recent list of vaccine sites in this newsletter. For more information on how to get vaccinated and who is eligible, please click here.
Clark County, along with the 1 October Memorial Committee, has been working on creating a lasting memorial to those that were affected by the heartbreaking events of 1 October and the days that followed. With that in mind, they are looking for input from our community. Please take a moment to take a short survey about the memorial and share your thoughts. Please click here. I have included information in this newsletter on how to stay informed as we work together to create a memorable, heartfelt and lasting 1 October Memorial.
There is helpful and interesting information available in this month’s newsletter including the 2021 Clark County Poet Laureate application, watering schedule changes, the new vaccine management tool, Food Truck Frenzy at Sunset Park and programs available at Whitney Recreation Center. When you have a few minutes, I would highly recommend taking time to see what’s happening in our community and how we’re trying to make it better.
As always, do not hesitate to email me at ccdistg@clarkcountynv.gov or call my office at (702) 455-5561 with any questions or concerns you may have. You can also follow me on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

We will never forget what happened in Las Vegas on 1 October 2017. Now, Clark County is working to create a lasting memorial that remembers the victims, honors the survivors and first responders, and celebrates the resilience of our community. Should the memorial be a park, a monument, a sculpture or something else? Your input is critical to the success of this effort. Please take this short survey and let us know your thoughts. Also, please consider sharing this survey with your friends and anyone who may have an interest in this matter (before March 14th, the last day this survey is available).
To follow the progress of this project, please visit www.ClarkCountyNV.gov/1OctoberMemorial and subscribe to email updates from the 1 October Memorial Committee. Additionally, you can follow the committee at www.Facebook.com/1OctoberMemorial.
We look forward to hearing from you as it is determined how best to create a 1 October “Memorial to Remember.”

Clark County is in search of candidates to serve as the fourth Clark County Poet Laureate who will be responsible for promoting poetry as an artform and as a means of engaging the community. The Poet Laureate will meet with a designated representative of Clark County Parks and Recreation to plan activities during the two-year term, including a monthly 30-minute Clark County TV segment and a monthly program at the Winchester Dondero Cultural Center. The Poet Laureate must be able and willing to participate in public events and educational programs throughout the term of service. For more information, please click here.
The EPA's annual Fix a Leak Week is March 15 – 21, but you can find and fix leaks inside and outside your home to save water and money all year long. The average household's leaks can account for nearly 10,000 gallons of water wasted every year. Common types of leaks found in the home are worn toilet flappers, dripping faucets, and other leaking valves.
Repairing water damage caused by leaks can cost thousands of dollars for a typical homeowner. With smart leak detectors, you can prevent or mitigate water damage at your home using a leak detector that sends information to a smartphone app.
Save water and money by following leak-finding tips or applying for a smart leak detector rebate coupon at snwa.com

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services announced the MTX/Salesforce Vaccine Management tool using a Salesforce platform is now live and being used to support vaccination efforts.
“We are very excited to launch this tool in Nevada,” said Julia Peek, Deputy Administrator, Division of Public and Behavioral Health. “This will allow residents to book their appointments more easily and experience a more efficient check in process when they arrive. For our vaccination teams, this will reduce data entry and increase the timeliness of reporting.”
The tool started with a soft launch at one Southern Nevada Health District site in Clark County last Monday with appointment booking and last Tuesday with the first clinic check-ins. In the first vaccination event using the system, 126 vaccinations were recorded and 33 new appointments were booked. For last Wednesday, 430 first dose and 890 second dose appointments were scheduled and 277 vaccinations were recorded.
Other sites in Clark County and other Nevada counties will go live in the coming weeks.
This statewide system is funded through the Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity Grant from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention at a cost of more than $6 million. It will replace the multiple systems that are being used and streamline vaccine management efforts to be more efficient.

Voters who choose to vote via mail ballot may safely drop off their voted ballot at the City Clerk’s office. For added convenience, the Parks and Recreation Building will also be a mail ballot drop-off site during the period of early voting. For those who prefer to vote in-person instead of by mail, you will need to do one of the following:
- If you have your mail ballot, surrender your voted or unvoted mail ballot (preferably in the packet sent to you) to an election official at the voting site; or
- If you do not have your mail ballot, you will be required to sign an affirmation at the voting site swearing that you have not already voted in the current election and that you understand no one may attempt to vote or actually vote more than once in the same election.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will be closing the inside shoulder and travel lane along northbound Interstate 11 between Wagonwheel Drive and Lake Mead Parkway from 7 p.m., March 3 through 6 a.m., April 30, in Henderson. (It will shift the current outside shoulder and travel lane closure configuration to the inside).
The temporary closures are needed for bridge and concrete repair work as part of a $12.7 million, 6-mile-long Interstate 11 upgrade between Mile Markers 16.8 and 22.8 that began work late last year. Las Vegas Paving is the general contractor. The project calls for removing the existing 14-year-old rubberized asphalt and replacing it with a crumb rubber overlay for a smoother, rejuvenated driving surface that also dampens ambient noise.
The job additionally repairs concrete slab bridge decks and approaches at East Paradise Hills and College Drives, while installing decorative rock at the freeway interchanges for reduced soil erosion and better slope management. Other work entails new bridge painting and drainage enhancements, plus lighting and signage improvements.
Motorists should use caution while travelling through the work zone, heed construction signage, and take alternate detour routes, if possible. NDOT works with Waze to inform the public about planned highway restrictions, but unscheduled construction changes, closures and restrictions are possible due to weather or other factors. For the latest state highway conditions, visit nvroads.com or call 511 before driving.
