Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office Expands Outreach to Veterans Through Advisory Board Initiative
Santa Fe County, NM – The Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office recently hosted two community outreach sessions at the Vet Center, providing veterans with information about the 2026 Primary Election and services available through the Clerk’s Office.
The outreach events were designed to create an open, conversational space where attendees could ask questions and engage directly with election staff. Veterans in attendance were highly engaged, asking thoughtful questions and participating in detailed discussions about the voting process.
Many of the questions focused on New Mexico’s new semi-open primary system, including how ballots are assigned and how voters can participate based on their party affiliation. Attendees also showed strong interest in vote-by-appointment options, absentee voting, voter registration updates, and general election processes.

In addition to voter-focused topics, Clerk’s Office staff provided information on election security measures, ballot handling procedures, and opportunities to serve as an election worker. The sessions also highlighted ongoing initiatives such as the Informed Citizen Training program and efforts to improve accessibility and transparency in election administration.
These outreach events build on the Clerk’s Office’s broader commitment to engaging with the veteran community. In 2025, the office launched a Veterans Advisory Board, led by Gary Reid and Kristy Brusso, to help guide outreach efforts and improve access to election information for veterans. The Veterans Center outreach was a direct recommendation from Advisory Board members.
“By bringing election information directly into the community, the Clerk’s Office aims to ensure that all voters have access to accurate, clear, and timely information ahead of the election.” Said Santa Fe County Clerk, Katharine E. Clark.
“The Santa Fe County Clerk’s Office looks forward to continuing its partnership with the Veterans Center and expanding outreach opportunities in the future.”
