On Monday, October 13, we join together to recognize and uplift our Native American communities from the 23 Tribes, Nations, and Pueblos of New Mexico, and the urban Indigenous peoples, artists, educators, and cultural leaders who give Santa Fe its strong sense of place and global reputation as a center of beauty, heritage, and resilience.
At the October 14 Board of County Commissioners (BCC) meeting at 2 p.m., I will be introducing a Proclamation recognizing the second Monday of October as Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Please join us in the BCC chambers at 102 Grant Avenue or online to honor our indigenous peoples.
This proclamation celebrates the deep history, living cultures, and ongoing contributions of Indigenous Peoples in Santa Fe County and across New Mexico. We honor our eight sovereign Pueblos – Santa Clara, San Ildefonso, Nambe, Pojoaque, Tesuque, Cochiti, Santo Domingo, and San Felipe – as well as Indigenous women leaders and residents from throughout the Americas who enrich the spirit of our County.
Join the weekend celebration of Indigenous dance and music, poetry and storytelling from October 11 - 13, 2025, at the Santa Fe Plaza.*
Let us celebrate this day with gratitude, respect, and a shared commitment to honor the first peoples of this land.
