Santa Fe, NM- The Santa Fe County Housing Authority, in partnership with Forth, PNM, and the Land of Enchantment Clean Cities Coalition, is launching the Affordable Mobility Platform (AMP) electric vehicle (EV) carshare pilot program at two of its public housing communities: 52 Camino de Jacobo and 8 Las Lomas Drive.
This program offers community members access to affordable, all-electric cars for errands, appointments, shopping, and more, bridging transportation gaps not met by public transit. Participants can reserve a vehicle using the MDO Carshare app for $5 per hour or $50 per day, plus tax. On-site EV charging for the carshare vehicles is also included. Anyone over 21 with a valid U.S. driver’s license and clean driving record can sign up.
In 2019, on-road travel, including passenger and freight vehicles, produced over 740,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide, surpassing emissions from landfills, wastewater treatment, and residential energy use combined. This means transportation is Santa Fe County’s largest source of carbon emissions. Expanding access to EV carsharing programs like AMP helps frontline communities adopt clean transportation solutions while reducing pollution and costs associated with vehicle ownership.
Adrianna Velasquez, Deputy Director of Housing Operations, emphasized the importance of the AMP carshare program: " Our EVs are not only helping the environment, but they are also helping our tenants, and the Santa Fe community have access to transportation.”
Carsharing is an efficient alternative to owning a vehicle. Drivers who use a car-sharing system can access a car without paying the high ownership costs, including repairs and insurance. Electric carsharing benefits the environment and public health. EVs are oil-free, produce no smog, and emit significantly less carbon than traditional cars.
Santa Fe County is a proud leader in green energy and invests in EV infrastructure. Between 2025 and 2028, the county will use $4.2 million in federal and state funding to install 33 publicly accessible charging stations at 13 locations, including community centers, senior centers, and affordable housing developments. Additionally, the County is transitioning its fleet to electric and low-carbon alternatives.

Residents and community members are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony on April 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM at 52 Camino de Jacobo. A training/information session will follow, guiding anyone interested in signing up and reserving an EV through the MDO Carshare app.

The Affordable Mobility Platform (AMP) expands access to EVs in underserved communities by providing shared EVs and charging infrastructure at affordable housing locations. Designed and executed by the nonprofit Forth to reduce transportation barriers and accelerate EV adoption, AMP will deploy 50 shared EVs and Level 2 chargers across eight states by the end of 2025. The U.S. Department of Energy’s Vehicle Technologies Office primarily funds the project, with additional support from partner organizations.
