County partners with Rio Grande Trail staff to hold public meetings

Doña Ana County - Doña Ana County partnered with Rio Grande Trail staff to hold two Open House meetings the first week of May.

The Rio Grande Trail is a visionary, collaborative cross-state project that aims to connect communities, support outdoor recreation and preserve the natural beauty of New Mexico. About 90 miles of public use trail were developed so far, along the Rio Grande River corridor, which spans close to 500 miles between the Colorado and Texas borders.

Throughout southern New Mexico, the shallow river is a ribbon of green in the arid Chihuahuan Desert. It is the lifeblood for communities along its path feeding agricultural production of crops that include chile, cotton, grapes and pecans.

To learn more about the Rio Grande Trail project, share your thoughts and help shape its future in this county, please attend an open house near you. They will be held as follows:

  • 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 2, at Sparky's Burgers and BBQ, 115 Franklin St. in the Village of Hatch.
  • Noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 3, at the Cinco de Mayo Fiesta, Mesilla Plaza, Calle Principal in Las Cruces.
