The state of New Mexico Broadband Program and the Federal Communications Commission are spearheading information-gathering campaigns in their efforts to close the digital divide in New Mexico and nationwide.
These new data collection efforts offer East Mountain residents - and all New Mexico residents - a great opportunity to tell the state and the FCC about your broadband experiences.
The data will allow the FCC and the state of New Mexico to update their maps that display fixed and mobile broadband availability for individual locations. These efforts also provide a way for consumers, as well as tribal, state, and local governments, to challenge and improve the accuracy of the maps by sharing data with the FCC and the state.
More specifically, the state of New Mexico and FCC want to ensure their maps are more accurate than they might be now. The accurate maps also enable broadband funding programs to target support for broadband services to the areas most in need.
Congress has approved the American Rescue Plan Act, which allows for broadband infrastructure to be built as a COVID-19 relief measure. This is a great time to provide the state of New Mexico and the FCC with your broadband speed and quality.
First, test your broadband speed and quality at the N.M. Broadband Program web site: https://nmbbmapping.speedtestcustom.com/
Second, tell the FCC what your speed results are here: FCC Wants to Know
