COMMUNITY PARTNER SPOTLIGHT
Somerset County Department of Health
Somerset County Department of Health (SCDOH) is dedicated to fostering healthy lifestyles and a safe environment to the community by providing support and essential public health services to contracted communities, as well as services throughout the Somerset County.
Back-to-school season is full of excitement – new backpacks and lunchboxes, school supplies, classrooms, and friends. To make sure everyone has a great school year, start it off strong and vaccinate for healthy kids, happy classrooms, and a safe community.
The SCDOH is offering free back-to-school vaccination clinics to provide routine immunizations for children who live in Somerset County. Thanks to the New Jersey Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program, vaccines are provided at no cost to eligible Somerset County children 18 years and younger who are uninsured, American Indian or Alaska Native, or enrolled in NJ Family Care Plan A. Appointments are required for those eligible for the VFC program and can be made at http://bit.ly/3Y55Rc1.
The clinic is located at the Richard Hall Community Mental Health Center at 500 North Bridge Street in Bridgewater. Upcoming clinic dates for the full range of childhood vaccines required for school attendance are available at https://SoCoNJ.gov/health. For questions about the SCDOH public health clinic or eligibility, call 908-231-7155 or email SCDOHnursing@co.somerset.nj.us.
With the help of vaccines, many diseases have become rare in the US, but some do still exist. Following the recommended vaccine schedule from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is the best defense parents can give to help protect their child from potentially serious diseases such as polio, measles, whooping cough, and chickenpox. Unvaccinated children are at increased risk of contracting such diseases and can spread them to classmates, babies too young to be vaccinated, and people with weakened immune systems. Together we can prevent the spread of disease and ensure a healthier, safe community for everyone.

FCHS OUT AND ABOUT
Healthy Together Program a Success
Our FCHS department completed an 8-week pilot program this summer inspiring families to live a healthier life! This free program, funded by a grant through the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), taught both children and adults nutrition and physical activity themed topics to help support lowering obesity, a major risk factor for chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and cancer. Participants loved the discussions, snacks and recipes, fitness activities and supportive environment. We congratulate the ten participants on their commitment to living a healthier life by setting goals together as a family and making healthier lifestyle choices.
