Free Fishing Day

Saturday, June 1

Free for adults and teens

Registration is required.

Adults and kids alike can fish for free on this special day - no state fishing license required.    

Virtual Fishing Derby:  All Day, Mercer County

Join us for a Virtual Fishing Derby from anywhere in Mercer County. Register online and share your catches to our Instagram using #MCVirtualFishDerby. Prizes awarded!

Feed the Animals:  Saturday, June 1

It’s lunchtime for our education animals! See what it takes to keep them healthy, clean, and fed. We might even enlist some willing hands to help. Will you be our animal caretaker for a day?

Fish Printing:  Saturday, June 8

Create fanciful fish with paint, brush, and paper through the ancient art of Gyotaku. Help us create the largest school of fish the nature center has ever seen!

Bug Catching:  Saturday, June 15

Explore the bug world of the Abbott Marshlands. With sweep nets, bug boxes and other tools of the trade, we’ll take a close look at these amazing animals before releasing them back to nature.

Visit the Tulpehaking Nature Center to unearth your inner naturalist. Each month we’ll have a new guided nature activity for you to explore.

Kayak Nature Tour

Fridays, June 7 & June 14

9 am - noon

Mercer County Park Marina

County: $30/per person, Out-of-County: $35/per person

Ages 16 and up

Enjoy a morning of paddling & exploration during a naturalist-led kayak tour. Encounter basking turtles, feeding songbirds and even carnivorous plants. Life vest, binoculars, and kayak rental fee included. Basic kayak instruction provided.

Sounds of Nature Walk

Saturday, June 8

10 am - noon

Mercer Meadows @ Rosedale Lake

Free for all ages

Unwind while taking in the sounds and scents of the forest on this guided nature walk along the Stony Brook in Rosedale Park. This trail will traverse some small streams and pass through a mature beech forest on the way to a beaver lodge. Part of the Hopewell Valley Come Outside & Play series.

Standing Yoga and Nature Walk 

Saturday, June 8

10 am - noon 

Tulpehaking Nature Center

Free, Adults and Teens 

Join us for some fresh air and exercise during this monthly outdoor yoga mini-class (30-minutes) followed by a nature walk at a steady and comfortable pace. No mat needed. No experience needed!

Nature-based meditations are as old as the hills! Join this guided session where we learn and practice a meditation based on breath and the natural elements.

Rise & Shine Walk

Mercer County Park @ Marina parking lot

Free, Adults

During summer months, it’s best to get an early start to the day. Join a park naturalist on a brisk walk dedicated to enjoying the wonderous sights and sounds nature has to offer in the early morning hours. Each month will offer a new trail and new experiences.

Birding By Ear

Saturday, June 22

2-4 pm

Free, Adults and Teens

Take your birdwatching to the next level by learning to bird by ear. This classroom program will focus on bird calls with attention to tone and phrasing, arming participants with the skills to birdwatch in any light condition and “listen in” on bird communication.
