LITERATURE

Indoor Poetry Circle: Jorge Luis Borges (1899 – 1986)

The Mercer County Library, Lawrence Headquarters Branch
2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville
(609) 883-8293 | mcl.org

Jorge Luis Borges (1899 – 1986), is one of the most important writers of the 20th Century, a major Latin American poet and librarian who once wrote, “I have always imagined that Paradise will be a kind of library.” Argentine by birth, but nurtured on universal literature, in return, Borges has effectively influenced the destiny of literature. Thought of himself primarily as a poet. Borges cultivated three genres: the essay, the poem, and the short story. His essays are like poems in their almost musical development of themes; his poems make us think, as though they were essays; his short stories are poetic and magical. In creating the most original writing of his time, Borges taught us that creation is recreation, that we are all one contradictory mind, connected amongst each other through time, space and poetry.
Registration is required.hopeprogs@mcl.org
