Joyce was a lifelong artist and resided in Ewing, New Jersey for nearly 70 years. Joyce was a prolific artist, although many were unaware of her artistic ability. Her artwork was primarily watercolors of quirky local scenes, including barns, historic buildings, industrial sites, nature scenes, and urban buildings in Mercer County. Co-sponsored with the Hopewell Valley Historical Society. Registration is requested.

In April 2019 the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System will be hosting its 10th annual TrashedArt Contest. The contest celebrates Earth Day by encouraging patrons to turn ordinary trash into extraordinary art.
The contest is limited to one entry per artist. Classes or groups may participate only if they register ahead of time by calling 609-883-8292 or e-mailing jcuddahy@mcl.org. The library will accept artwork no earlier than Wednesday, March 20, 2019 and no later than Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Selected artwork will be on display throughout the month of April, beginning on Monday, April 1, 2019. Students in grades 7-12 and adults who reside in Mercer County are eligible to participate.
Entries must be original artwork, no larger than 3' by 3' by 3' and no heavier than 25 lbs. Any art medium is acceptable, so long as a minimum of 75% recycled content is used. Some examples of recycled content include metals, paper, rubber, glass (but no sharp shards), plastic and cloth. The criteria for recycled materials is anything that has been manufactured and would have otherwise been thrown away. Non-recyclable materials such as glue, paint, tape, etc. are permitted. Suggestions include newspapers, fabric from old clothing, machine parts, and used building materials. For the purposes of this contest, natural materials such as rocks, dirt, bones and sticks are not considered recycled.
Contest entry forms will be available at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch Reference Desk starting January 2019, as well as on the Lawrence Headquarters Branch page of the Mercer County Library System website. All accepted art entries will be publicly displayed at the Lawrence Headquarters Branch of the Mercer County Library System, located at 2751 Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, New Jersey. Entries will be judged, and winners will be notified by phone or email. Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place in both adult and student categories. A reception will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at 7 p.m. to honor the winners and the participants.

NOW - MARCH 31 The Act of Drawing Grounds For Sculpture, 80 Sculpture Way, Hamilton (609) 586-0616 | groundsforsculpture.org Shared in this exhibition are exercise-based drawings participants used to explore the nature of charcoal, graphite, and ink as a medium, experiment with various mark-making techniques, and gain confidence in the use of positive and negative spaces as compositional elements. More developed drawings highlight each artist's individual style and embrace of their chosen medium. Among these are beautifully drawn representations of sculpture, evocative landscapes, and whimsical characters both figurative and organic.

In his talk titled The Education of Fannie Sherrod, historian and Sherrod descendant Al Corbett discusses the history and struggle to educate African-Americans pre- and post-Civil War. Through an exploration of his family history, Corbett explains the evolving role religious communities had in educating America’s enslaved and freed populations. Registration is suggested.
