concept plan b - prospect street improvements

KEY UPDATES FROM THE RECENTLY APPROVED PROSPECT STREET IMPROVEMENT PLAN

The Maplewood Township Committee recently approved the final Prospect Street Improvement Plan. After considering public comment from multiple community meetings, input from our traffic engineers, and the completion of a recent traffic study, below are some key updates.

  • Oakland Road: After a trial period, the “no left turn” restrictions will not be implemented.
  • Prospect Presbyterian Church Area: A dedicated bike lane will be added to the Northbound lane in front Prospect Presbyterian Church. Additional vehicle parking spaces will be added along Tuscan Road.
  • Springfield Intersection: The southbound lane at this intersection will have a dedicated bike lane & two travel lanes. Dedicated bike lanes have also been added on the south side of Springfield Avenue near the intersection to provide transition areas to shared lanes.

To view the full concept plan, go here. We anticipate beginning construction this fall. This is a major project implementing bicycle lanes, traffic-calming treatments, and pedestrian facilities. Construction work will create disruption to travel; we appreciate your understanding as we make these meaningful upgrades.

GOOD TROUBLE

In Celebration of Pride Month, Maplewood Arts and Culture Presents:Troublemakers by Deric Carner.

What does it feel like to never fully belong? Troublemakers explores this question through a series of wall-mounted sculptural faces that are fragile, funny, and a little grotesque. Each one sits somewhere between mask and portrait, showing how we present ourselves to others while still holding parts of ourselves back.

On view Saturday & Sunday
6/27, 6/28 | 2 p.m. - 5 p.m.

HOUSING & DEVELOPMENT TOWN HALL

June is National Homeownership Month. To make homeownership accessible, we must address the rising costs that are challenging socioeconomic, racial and generational diversity in South Orange and Maplewood.

On Wednesday, 6/24 from 7-9 PM, we invite you to join Mayor Collum, Mayor DeLuca and the Community Coalition on Race's Residential Committee for a Town Hall conversation at Maplewood Memorial Library's Community Room. We'll discuss development, zoning, affordable housing and neighborhood issues shaping the future of our communities. Bring your questions and perspectives to the discussion.
