February, we hear you: don't roll the credits just yet. More snow this morning; commuting is a team sport; and a delayed opening for SOMSD schools. On the bright side, our annual Spring Egg Hunt date is on lock! Onwards & upwards...
SNOW CLEARING
Remember to clear your sidewalks of snow & ice within 24 hours from the end of snowfall. Use sand or salt on ice that cannot be removed. Also, it is unlawful to place, plow, or deposit snow or ice into a roadway that has already been plowed. Please clear snow from 3 feet around any fire hydrant on your property, and don't forget - corner properties are responsible for clearing the access to crosswalks.
See a neighbor who hasn't shoveled their sidewalk? Check on them if you can - especially if they are elderly or live alone - and you can always clock your good deed for the day and help them shovel!
A big thank you to our Dept. of Public Works, Maplewood Police Dept., South Essex Fire Dept. & all the other groups who worked through this week's blizzard to make our streets safer for residents.
DPW crews will continue to work throughout this week to improve our roadway conditions. Those looking to report a concern can use our Report A Concern Portal.
WOMEN'S HISTORY MONTH
In honor of Women’s History Month, Maplewood’s business districts will once again transform into a community-wide art gallery all month long in March. Join us for the kick-off tomorrow night, 2/26, at The Woodland (60 Woodland Rd.) from 5:45-8 p.m. to meet the artists and preview sample artwork on display.
Check out our SOMA Women's History Month website for more events throughout March, including our annual Wear White for Women Town Hall gathering on Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. (574 Valley Street). This is always a beautiful moment to pause, acknowledge how far women have come (and how far we still have to go) and recognize our local women leaders who serve or have served our community.

FILM READY: Last summer, Maplewood completed the Film Ready New Jersey Program, so it's pretty cool to see the new trailer for American Classic. The film, starring Laura Linney, Kevin Kline and Jon Tenney, was shot primarily in and around Maplewood - we're spying the Burgdorf, Maplewood train station, downtown & more.
