DEHART PARK REHABILITATION

In 2025, Maplewood Township began to discuss plans to rehabilitate DeHart Park, holding public meetings to discuss rehabilitation of the athletic fields (Phase I) and surrounding amenities (Phase II).

The next public hearing, to go over details in relation to the grant application for Phase II, is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 17th, 2026 at 7:00 p.m. at Maplewood Town Hall (574 Valley Street). You can watch by Zoom at www.maplewoodnj.gov/zoom. Head to www.maplewoodnj.gov/dehart-rehabilitation to see concept plans, cost estimates and more.

NOTES & REMINDERS

REMINDER FROM SOUTH ESSEX FIRE DEPT: If your pipes are frozen, please contact a licensed plumber - do not attempt to thaw frozen pipes using any type of open flame, as this can cause a fire in your home or business. If a pipe breaks or you experience flooding, please call 911 immediately. Also, remember to keep fire hydrants clear of snow and ice. Accessible hydrants can make a critical difference in an emergency.

FILM READY: Last summer, Maplewood completed the Film Ready New Jersey Program, so it's pretty cool to see the new trailer for American Classic. The film, starring Laura Linney, Kevin Kline and Jon Tenney, was shot primarily in and around Maplewood - we're spying the Burgdorf, Maplewood train station, downtown & more.

2026 RECYCLING CALENDARThe 2026 Recycling Calendar is now in printable format for thy fridge. For weekly reminders on recycling, follow us on social media or download TC Member Nancy Adams' favorite recycling reminder app: https://www.recyclecoach.com.

MPD LAUNCHES BLUE ENVELOPE PROGRAM TO ASSIST DRIVERS WITH AUTISM: Maplewood Police Department launched the Blue Envelope Program this January to create safer interactions between law enforcement and individuals with autism during routine traffic stops. Drivers with autism are issued a distinct blue envelope to store essential driving documents (e.g. driver’s license, registration, insurance information), which serves as an immediate visual cue to the officer to modify their communication approach. To receive a Blue Envelope, stop by the Police Department at 1618 Springfield Avenue; or email Officer Byron Lewin at Blewin@maplewoodnj.gov (Subject Line: Blue Envelope).
