 Happy Holidays, Maplewood! Our little Town Hall slows down in late December, and we hope our residents get a chance to as well. As a reminder, Town Hall and other municipal offices will close at 12:15 on Dec. 24 and 30 & close for the entire day on Dec. 25, 31 & Jan. 1.

For this month's Township 101, Mayor Nancy Adams takes us us on a whirlwind tour of one of Maplewood’s under-the-radar business districts, the Irvington Avenue Corridor (where Parker Ave. connects with Clinton Ave. & Irvington Ave. on our Eastern border). 2026 PET LICENSE APPLICATIONS
Pet owners, you can check this one off your to-do list today. Pet licenses are required by ordinance in Maplewood. 2026 applications are open, and due by January 31, 2026.

2026 COMMUTER RATES
Maplewood recently adopted a fee increase beginning January 1, 2026, in the following areas: Jitney Pass (now $165); Commuter Pass (now $400); and Combo Pass (now $415).
The per-ride fee did not change; and there will not be a pay early option to avoid the fee. Also, the hybrid/electric vehicle 25% discount remains the same; and prices will be prorated by 50% beginning July 1. (Please Note: You cannot buy a half-year for use in the first half of the year, only the second.)

NJMVC MOBILE UNIT: Ever wish the DMV just like...came to you instead? Maplewood Police Dept. is making your dreams come true Dec. 29 - Jan. 2, when the NJMVC Mobile Unit (Fun Fact: It hasn't been called the DMV in NJ since 2003!) will be stationed at our own DeHart Park from 9-2 p.m. each day (minus New Year’s Day) from 9 am-2 pm. Make your appointments at https://telegov.njportal.com/njmvcmobileunit to sign up for services like REALID, Registration Renewal, Non-Driver ID's & more. These services are available to NJ residents only.
CODE BLUE: When weather temperatures dip below 32 degrees, Essex County declares a Code Blue. Any resident in need of a heating center overnight can take refuge at the Municipal Court/Police Headquarters (1618 Springfield Avenue). Visitors will be directed to the court room until the overnight warming center at the DeHart Community Center is open and staffed, and residents can be transported over. Residents may also call the Police Department to report others who are without adequate heat or shelter and may need assistance. In emergency situations please call 9-1-1.
