We all wanted summer and hoo boy, she's here now! Stay cool, friends, and check out this great PSA from PSEG on saving energy in this crazy heat. Any resident experiencing a heat emergency should call the Police Department at 9-1-1, (973) 762-1234, or visit 1618 Springfield Avenue. When necessary, the Police Department can open a cooling center for residents. Meanwhile, read on for the latest out of Town Hall & don't forget to follow us on Instagram and Facebook.
JULY 4TH WEEKEND
Staying local has never looked so fun! Kick off your Independence Day weekend with a slate of community events leading up to our annual fireworks display on Friday, July 4th; then head to our Grand Opening of the new Memorial Library on Saturday, July 5 for a full day of family-friendly fun.
SEWER BILLING UPDATE
Less fun, but equally newsworthy: the Township has not sent out 2025 sewer bills, but we expect to mail these bills in July. The Township intends to set the payment due date to be approximately two weeks after the bills are received by residents, with a 30-day grace period after the due date.
Included on this sewer billing will be the new Stormwater Utility billing. Established in 2024, Maplewood’s new Stormwater Utility was created to directly address the impacts of climate change and the growing challenges of stormwater management in Maplewood. The dedicated Stormwater Utility fee is based on a calculation of impervious surfaces on each property, which contributes to stormwater runoff. To learn more about the ordinance, including its development, available credits and adjustments, and additional resources, visit our stormwater information page at www.maplewoodnj.gov/stormwater-utility.

Please join us on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at 7:00 pm at Town Hall (574 Valley) to discuss our concept & offer feedback.
The forum will also be held via Zoom and live streamed on YouTube. Log in via telephone at 929 205 6099. Webinar ID: 878 7629 8932.

SPRINGFIELD AVENUE CONSTRUCTION UPDATE
Our beloved Springfield Avenue is getting a lot of work done this summer (think water main replacement, repaving sidewalks & curbs, and installing new benches). NJAW expects to complete their inroad service line replacement by June 27 (they will return for work behind the curb, but that will not impact traffic); and the Township's contractor for crosswalks & sidewalk upgrades will continue their work through August. Our contractors work will not require road closures until the pavement of Springfield Ave which is scheduled to occur in August.
Despite the hubbub, our merchants are very much OPEN FOR BUSINESS and accessible with 4 free parking lots & side street parking. Springfield Avenue Partnership (SAP) made this handy map below to highlight their locations. You'll find the map and a list of merchants under recent news on their website: www.springfieldavenue.com.

Lead Assessments - A reminder that New Jersey requires all owners of rental units built before 1978 to get visual inspection lead assessment in their rental units. Maplewood has partnered with LEW Environmental, a company that can provide lead inspections. They are now sending out a second round of letter for affected property owners who have not yet complied with the law. For more information or to schedule an inspection, head to the Lew Environmental website or call 908-654-8068.
Shrubs and Overgrowth - Whether your shrubs are neatly trimmed or bursting with new growth, they may not overhang or impede the sidewalk. Same goes for trees and other plant growth. Be considerate of pedestrians and keep the sidewalks clear!
