Maplewood Weekly Update · 1-29-2025
Township of Maplewood, New Jersey sent this bulletin at 01/29/2025 01:45 PM EST
Good afternoon, Maplewood friends & neighbors. Welcome to this week's Township news.
A statement in support of Oheb Shalom Congregation and our Jewish community, issued Sunday, January 26:
Maplewood stands in solidarity with Oheb Shalom Congregation and our entire Jewish Community, which was targeted by protesters on Sunday with hateful anti-semitic graffiti on the synagogue’s property. We join with the elected officials in South Orange, with the clergy of all our synagogues, and with our other faith leaders, to strongly denounce these acts and offer our support.
Rights of free speech and protest do not give anyone the right to deface property or make threats against the Jewish community. Whether these acts were committed by residents of South Orange or Maplewood, or from people outside of our community, our message to you is clear – we stand together to resist and reject your intimidation and disrespect of the Jewish residents in our towns. An act of hate toward one is an act of hate toward all of us.
On behalf of the Maplewood Township Committee, Deputy Mayor Malia Herman, Committee Member Vic DeLuca, Committee Member Dean Dafis, and Committee Member Deborah Engel,
- Nancy Adams, Mayor
Quarterly Property Taxes are due by 4 p.m. on February 1. There’s a drop box located in the front door of the Municipal Building for Township payments, or you can pay online for a small fee here.
Snow and salt combine to do a number on our streets. You can report potholes - as well as other concerns like rodents, litter, or streetlight outages - by filling out our Report A Concern form at www.maplewoodnj.gov. If you see any more urgent icing hazards in our streets, reach out directly to the Dept. of Public Works at 973-762-1175.
Still got that Christmas tree? You have one more day to dispose of it by dropping it off at the Public Works Facility at 359 Boyden Ave. by Jan. 30.
Cardboard & plastic & fibers, oh my. Get it all sorted with our 2025 Curbside Recycling Schedule.
Starting tomorrow, January 30, PATH will be closing their Hoboken Station until February 25 in order to complete significant track and station upgrades.
Basketball hoops are permitted in the public right-of-way on a temporary basis from March 21 to December 31 but remember to remove any temporary sports equipment from the street or verge. Doing so assists in better snow removal from the streets during the winter months.
Owners of multi-family properties need to register their properties by April 1. Visit the Department of Community Development, Property Maintenance Division, at 574 Valley Street, 2nd floor, to complete the form and pay your annual registration fee. Contact the Property Maintenance Division at 973-762-8120 x3700 with questions.
There’s been a change to request construction inspections. All Uniform Construction Code (UCC) inspection requests associated with permits issued by the Construction Division must be submitted via online form or written request by using this Inspection Request Form.
This winter, remember the law is to clear your sidewalks of snow and ice within 24 hours from the end of the snowfall or formation of ice. Use sand or salt on ice that cannot be removed.
With temperatures dropping lower overnight, residents experiencing a heating emergency should contact our police non-emergency line: 973-762-1234. During a Code Blue, those who do not have shelter or are unhoused can access the CSPNJ Warmline: 848-234-7006.
Two more days! License your dogs and cats by January 31, 2025. A portion of these pet license funds support the Township's Animal Trust Fund, which helps fund services like stray animal rescue, adoption, and vet bills; lab testing for rabies and distemper; and boarding for animals during cruelty or neglect investigations. To make a bigger impact, consider donating to the Animal Trust Fund with a check payable to The Township of Maplewood with "Animal Trust Fund" noted in the memo line.
The best things in life really are free. One of our Health Department's most salient messages this winter is one of the easiest ideas to start today. Curious about the research that spawned this campaign? Click here for a brochure from Partnership for a Drug-Free NJ.

Check out our December Board of Health report for lots of useful info on free COVID tests, free COVID vaccinations for the homebound, online assistance for social services, free flu vaccination clinics (including high dose flu vaccine for seniors), how to access free children’s vaccinations through Essex County and more.
