Radioactive Materials Information Notice
Attention medical use radioactive materials licensees.
After assessing past medical events that have occurred throughout the country, the U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) has concluded that human error contributed to many of the events. In an effort to reduce the number of medical events, the NRC recommends the use of generic process checklists for 10 CFR Part 35 modalities of use.
NRC issued Information Notice 2026-02, “Using Generic Process Checklists in Medical Care to Prevent Human Error” which discusses the topic in greater detail. Please note that these are not new regulatory requirements. It is meant to increase awareness of medical events and how generic checklists incorporated into a licensee’s procedures can potentially reduce the number of medical events. No response to the Information Notice is required.
The Information Notice may be access at the following NRC website: https://www.nrc.gov/reading-rm/doc-collections/gen-comm/info-notices/2026/index
