Environmental Services Trainee – AEMS-2025-25 – Apply by October 21, 2025
Open to: General Public Work Week: NE (35-hour) Work Week Salary: (P95) $51,987.70 (Non-Negotiable)
The Radiation Protection Element Environmental Services Trainee will begin training to become a qualified radioactive materials inspector and licensing reviewer assigned to the medical section of the Radioactive Materials Program. Under the close supervision of a Radiation Physicist 3, completes U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission courses and on the job training in health physics, inspection and licensing of medical uses of radioactive materials; performs environmental sampling to support RPE duties; learns the function and use of radiation detection instrumentation; starts training in responding to incidents, investigations, and emergencies involving radioactive materials, and eventually cross trains to include industrial radioactive materials facilities. The title requires travel, at government expense, to a number of week-long courses which are required for qualification. See also http://agreementstate.nj.gov/.
Successful candidates typically progress after one year to Environmental Specialist 1 ($58,817.71 - $85,742.03) and into the Radiation Physicist title series with experience thereafter.
