The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) published a Federal Register notice (attached) on April 19, 2023, announcing a 90-day public comment period on a request for information related to the NRC’s rulemaking to require the reporting as medical events of nuclear medicine injection extravasations that require medical attention for a suspected radiation injury. Section IV of the notice (under Supplementary Information) contains questions the NRC is seeking feedback on in the following areas: definitions, procedures, and healthcare inequities. The NRC is also requesting comments on preliminary proposed rule language, which is available at www.nrc.gov/docs/ML2308/ML23083B332.pdf or on the federal rulemaking website at http://www.regulations.gov under Docket ID NRC-2022-0218. Please submit your responses to the questions and your comments on the preliminary rule language using one of the methods described in the Addresses section of the notice.

The NRC plans to hold a public meeting on May 24, 2023, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET on the Microsoft Teams online platform. The NRC will publish a notice with the meeting link and agenda on the NRC’s public meeting website at least 10 calendar days before the meeting: https://www.nrc.gov/public-involve/public-meetings/index.cfm
