Governor Ricketts and DHHS Release Business Plan

Business Plan News Conf

Today, Governor Pete Ricketts and CEO Courtney Phillips held a news conference, and issued a news release announcing the agency’s business plan, detailing 25 priority initiatives that will guide the work of DHHS through June 2017.  The plan, “Real Improvements, Sustainable Progress, Better Lives for Nebraskans,” is the first for the agency.

"Making state government more efficient and effective, being more customer focused, and reducing regulatory complexity are three of my top priorities," said Governor Ricketts. “DHHS touches the lives of Nebraskans every day, servicing some of our most vulnerable citizens.  This business plan will result in improved services and interactions with DHHS as they help people live better lives.”

“Our plan demonstrates a new level of transparency and accountability,” said Phillips.  “While we have seen many achievements over the past year, Nebraskans will see an even greater commitment to better government, integrity and fiscal responsibility as we continue to improve our responsiveness and service.”

She said the plan follows the lead of Gov. Pete Ricketts to improve the performance of state government through strategic actions and measureable outcomes and outlines each priority, defines goals, identifies deliverables and compels DHHS to measure progress as efforts continue to effectively manage resources.

The 25 priorities represent work from across DHHS and fall within five strategic categories:

  • Integrating Services and Partnerships
  • Promoting Independence through Community–Based Services
  • Focusing on Prevention to Change Lives
  • Leveraging Technology to Increase Effectiveness
  • Increasing Operating Efficiencies and Improvements

“Our DHHS team has made great strides during the past year,” said Phillips.  “This plan projects the commitment and vision of our team to continue to improve services to all Nebraskans.”
